A carrier strike group led by the CNS Liaoning aircraft carrier has taken part in the ongoing "Joint Sword-2024B" exercise near Taiwan, according to the Eastern Theater Command of the People's Liberation Army.

Senior Captain Li Xi, spokesman for the PLA Eastern Theater Command, said in a statement on Monday afternoon that the Liaoning carrier strike group has carried out ship-aircraft coordination, aerial suppression and joint fire strike drills with other ground, air and naval forces in the waters and airs to the east of Taiwan Island.

He noted that the move aims to check joint combat capabilities of units involved in the exercise.

CNS Liaoning is the PLA's first aircraft carrier and has served in the PLA Navy for more than 10 years.

Shandong has left port. No news of Liaoning through the Taiwan Strait. Double carrier ops might be real

If it happens, it wouldn't be surprising to me by this point. Beyond any nice images, Liaoning's endurance and the 45 sorties per day (though only for 2 days) is already quite interesting to me.
