Can someone tell me in a few simple words why NATO was established??

And to say that Ukraine is not part of NATO and that's why we shouldn't do anything just isn't enough that is not good enough

First Crimea and now Eastern Ukraine what next Kiev itself??

NATO just announced a rapid reaction force and bases in Poland, wow big deal Mr Putin must be shaking in his shoes

NATO has lost its sense of direction too much talk no action

It's astonishing that the driver in the car just sat there and filming the bombardment. That's a little too close for me. I would've turn around and hit the gas pedal to the floor.

Cassad reported light schirmishing on outskirts of Mariupol and videos of convoys of Kiev forces internal movement to west of city. Nice to know some Ukrainians have smartphones and know how to take videos :D

Dien Bien Phu was tactically badly located overlooked by hills on all sides. Although French were on those hills they were quickly removed by the Vietminh who piece by piece pulled their artillery and anti aircraft guns to the top of those hills.

Mariupol looks to be sitting on a plain. It's fall would depend on how much effort the Kiev forces inside the city wants to fight.

The problem is that these ships received specific modifications for Russian weaponry. Then it will be difficult to sell.

Probably the French is pondering the option of selling them to India now. But as you said, the ship is made with mounting Russian weapon systems, so Moscow can get back at New Delhi by stalling the sale of such kits.

But in the end, if the French's track record is anything to go by, this is just to go along with the NATO summit, there should be a different announcement next week or so, otherwise Moscow would be suing the French for contract breach yesterday already.

Separatists claim superior numbers of soldiers of 5,000 and 70 units of armoured vehicles with several batteries of MLR for the assault on Mariupol with the intention of breeching at least part of the city before the start of the ceasefire talks.
