New York also revised their numbers up and even the revised numbers are likey underestimated. So I agree all countries underestimate and will need revision

As always when wuhan revised up their numbers, BBC says it feeds into suspicion and doubt to their numbers but when new York does it, not a peep.

Absolutely. How does it make these countries look when hey vaunted their first world superiority over China to see China contain a virus from surprise outbreak far better than they could even with warning? How does it make the US look to know that even with 2 month's advanced warning, they will still suffer undoubtedly over 1,000% the mortality of China in a population that is only 25%? The US said they had the number 1 health system in the world. It's not explainable, so the only thing they can do is accuse China of lying and try to cast blame on China.

I'll put here (instead of editing 13 minutes ago) what occurred to me:

ESPECIALLY because the West has been so suspicious about China (the Pentagon talking China threat priority etc. etc.),

the West shouldn't have missed the pandemic!

Evidently they can't bear to look in the mirror and wonder if they did something wrong. Yet, the virus is tearing down preconceived notions of how the world works for countless people and acting as a literal reality check. It cannot be reasoned with, it cannot be BS'd, it is immune to politics, immune to emotion, immune to ideology. It does however, love denialists of basic virology.

I think the point is that countries are made up of lots of people, many of whom are not hostile or know better or don't care for unnecessary hostility. Full spectrum competition involves taking high roads, exchanging low blows, and everything in between. Neither the US nor China can completely "take out" the other and it's counterproductive to frame things in terms that are too absolute.
