The way some posters reacted I really have started to believe that racism is pretty rampant in mainland. I have been to Singapore but never faced racism there(probably because this myself am a 'chinky') but if common Chinese are so thin skinned then it will be a real mess for the country.
A country is represented by her citizens.

There is a difference between "there have been cases of racism exhibited by individuals in XYZ group" versus saying "XYZ group are all inherently racist".

The problem with the CNN article is that it strongly alludes to the second approach -- and many users here are highly aware of the way in which foreign media often take examples of isolated or limited distasteful acts or beliefs in China and "generalize" it to make it seem like the entirety of China or the entirety of Chinese people are "like that".

The article you linked is disliked because it writes its article in a way to create that sense of generalization, and therefore has created hostility to your post.

Stepping into my moderator shoes now -- I'm going to let the discussion so far slide, however any further posts on the matter will be subject to strict scrutiny.
There is a difference between criticizing acts of racism or discrimination as bad -- versus suggesting an entire country or an entire people is racist, because the latter accusation itself ironically is no better.

As you mentioned previously that we are not bench-marking against US, We should also not bench-marking against Singapore either or your experiences. But since you mentioned it, I am sure you can find elements of racism in Singapore if one really wants to find it.

Now also you are that one making blanket statements about common Chinese being thin-skinned. Who is being racist here?

Edit: additional part of post removed. Cool it down

I am afraid you didn't get my point.
1. If CNN is wrong in this case then China should expose CNN. Just keeping mum will not help. Do you remember how cgtn published series to debunk some of the false reporting regarding Xinjiang?
2. There is no point setting the US as the benchmark.
3. Finally, I think that prevalent misconceptions among the common people should be corrected. In my country there wee some ignorant people who behaved rudely to/discriminated against doctors because they thought doctors spread the disease. Steps were taken against such loons. China should also take steps against people if they have wrongfully evicted tenants just because they were Africans.
Most of those Africans and South Asians are legitimate businessmen but an sizable of them are gangsters and drug traffickers. In HK, we have a ton of Indians, south Asians and Africans who came here simply seeking asylum. We provided thousands of dollars a month to them and provided living arrangement but many of them joined organized crime and commit robberies and drug traffickers. Since they destroyed their passports and most African countries refused to accept repatriations, these people have become a serious problem for HK and to some extent Guangzhou.

As for discrimination, there are many paranoid people. Even people from Hubei and doctors and nurses were discriminated. It has little to do with racism. It is just people like you and CNN and the US love to make it as some kind of racism. At least most Chinese didn't beat up and throw rocks at doctors or nurses or foreigners.

The article quoted by Jura also mentioned that China has converted an office building in Suifenhe, Heilongjiang, into a 600 bed hospital for Covid-19 to be staffed by 400 doctors and nurses (probably flown in from other parts of China). The conversion took a week and the hospital was scheduled for opening yesterday (Saturday).

Suifenhe is located at the border with Russia and just 120 miles from Vladivostok. Russia suspended all international flights on March 27. Many Chinese citizens trapped in Russia flew to Vladivostok and then enter China at Suifenhe. Suifenhe is now under lock down.

This shows how proactive China is fighting the Covid-19, and why China's infection and death toll numbers are so low compared with other countries.
yeah Russia was proactive as well Jan 30, 2020

even the Tet Offensive inside
Coronavirus: what’s behind Vietnam’s containment success?
  • With no deaths reported and the number of confirmed cases in the mere hundreds, Vietnam's response to the pandemic appears to be working
  • Elsewhere, governments enforced lockdowns to cope with existing epidemics. Vietnam did so to prevent an avoidable national crisis
