The world's largest cargo plane, the An-225, has joined the international convoy to transport medical supplies from China.

Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) worldwide, foreign countries have been running short on medical supplies, and with China possessing high production capacity, sending large military aircraft to transport medical supplies has become an efficient option to help relieve supplies shortage and fight the COVID battle, experts said on Monday.

The An-225 arrived in North China's Tianjin on Sunday evening to transport 400 tons of medical supplies bought from China, including seven million masks and several hundred thousand protective suits, to Poland, cannews.com.cn, a Chinese news website on the aviation industry, reported on Monday.

The An-225 is the world's heaviest and largest cargo aircraft and has just been upgraded, which kept the plane grounded for nearly two years, Ukrainian media Kyiv Post reported on Saturday.

"With only one flight, the An-225 can bring as much cargo from China as 10 Boeing 787 Dreamliners," the Kyiv Post quoted the Polish Ministry of State Assets as saying.

Despite this, the giant aircraft may have to make two round trips to fulfill the Polish contract, because its maximum capacity is about 250 tons and the medical supplies weigh 400 tons, the report said. This is probably the reason the An-225 was chosen for this mission, analysts said.

Air defense expert Fu Qianshao told the Global Times on Monday that the An-225 was originally designed to airlift a spacecraft, so it was given very strong payload-carrying capabilities, much stronger than other heavy military cargo planes like the C-5 and An-124, which are already of a class larger than China's Y-20.

The An-225 was developed by the Soviet Union in the late 1980s and was inherited by Ukraine and mothballed following its collapse. It was repurposed in 2001 to a civilian cargo carrier, reports said.

The German military also announced on Wednesday that it will hire the An-225 to transport medical supplies to Germany, China Central Television reported on Friday.

Since the COVID-19 broke out in many countries and China's phased success in containing the disease on a domestic level and its resumption of high production capability, many foreign countries have sent military cargo planes to China to transport medical supplies back home.

For instance, Russia sent an An-124 and two Il-76 cargo planes, and Algeria sent two Il-76s to Shanghai on April 4 to load supplies, including face masks, the National Business Daily reported on April 5.

The Iraqi military sent a C-130 cargo plane and the Kuwaiti military dispatched a C-17 transport aircraft to Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong Province on Wednesday to collect face masks and ventilators, the Guangzhou Daily reported on Wednesday.

Fu said that military cargo planes are usually more efficient than civilian passenger or cargo planes because they possess stronger payload-carrying capabilities and have rear or even front cargo doors, enabling vehicles to directly offload cargo into the aircraft, resulting in very fast loading speed.

All of these countries are engaged in an intensive fight against the COVID-19 and must want to get the supplies as fast as possible, Fu said.

Since 1963, China has sent around 21,000 medical personnel to African countries, helping 220 million patients there, which has been praised throughout the continent. The Chinese medical team is the most distinguished and longest cooperation project between China and Africa, involving most countries and regions, according to the China-Africa Institute.

When the COVID-19 pandemic spread around the world, current Chinese medical teams garrisoning in several African countries, such as Sudan, Ethiopia and Cameron, work to help local prevent the deadly disease.

Equatorial Guinea has close cooperation with China and is willing to learn China's experience, Chen Shuo, a deputy director of ophthalmology in Dongguan Songshanhu Central Hospital and member of the 30th batch of medical team aiding the Republic of Equatorial Guinea from South China's Guangdong Province, told the Global Times.

According to China Central Television, Equatorial Guinea reported its first confirmed case of COVID-19 on March 15, the day it announced the closure of schools, strict quarantine and testing procedures, and enhanced immigration control.

"When the novel coronavirus was found in other countries, the country began to remind people to wash their hands and wear face masks through mobile phone messages. Local epidemic prevention and control was conducted timely," Chen said.

Chen acted as the leader of medical team at Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea.

The Chinese medical team selected the latest prevention and treatment plan of COVID-19 and some effective prevention and treatment experience in China, translated it into Spanish, and sent it to the Ministry of Health of Equatorial Guinea.

Medical experts in Beijing with substantial experience against COVID-19 gave online lectures about the latest and detailed exploration to Chinese medical staff aiding Africa to better assist locals fighting against the pandemic.

"For example, chloroquine was found to be effective in the treatment of novel coronavirus in China. These are the experiences of frontline doctors in China accumulated through thousands of cases, which we hope to convey to Africa. We also teach and explain the use of ventilator. Local medical resources are scarce, and there are few local doctors who can skillfully operate the ventilator," Chen introduced.

Peter Forster Geneticist from Cambridge University basically what he said is that the virus that afflicted Wuhan is of type B the 2nd mutation of the virus and form the minority type of the virus . Type A which is much older and the most prevalent type of virus spread all over Europe and North America. Then you have type C that afflicted Singapore
Not proof but should absolved Wuhan as the origin of the virus and shot all the conspiracies theory because to evolve into type B it take time of years if not decades! as the script paper clearly said

@vesicles @Bltizo u guys think they will ever do a trial where they intentionally infect with covid?

Well, it would be a bad bad idea to intentionally get people sick, or potentially sick. No matter who volunteers. That's a big no no in any kind of medical research or treatment development in any country. It's ok to ask sick people to volunteer for an experimental treatment, provided that the patients have been fully informed of the risks and they give full consent to the treatment. It is however not ok to intentionally get healthy people sick under any circumstances. NO! That idea itself is against the very concept of what medicine is about.

The longest and the most important part of the vaccine development is the safety part, as I've mentioned before. Also as I've mentioned before, with any vaccines, we are not simply looking at getting a few million people vaccinated at this moment. We are looking to get BILLIONS and BILLIONS of people vaccinated in the next few decades. Any issues with the vaccine will be magnified many folds. No one will develop a temporary vaccine that will be used in the next few months and later find out that this vaccine causes permanent infertility of young kids when they grow up... If we vaccinate 50% of the population on earth, that will mean the end of mankind...

Another concern is the targeted populations. The coronavirus targets older populations with preexisting conditions. Vaccines will target everyone. that means a large population of young kids, who would otherwise be unaffected by the virus, will be affected by the vaccine. Any longer term side effects of the vaccines WILL have bigger impact on the kids because they have many more years to live. Keep in mind that these little kids most likely will live a healthy and full-filling life without the vaccine...

With vaccines, the goal is NOT to trade lives with the virus. You don't want to have the mentality of "OK, I'm going to kill 1000 with the vaccines, but the virus will kill 10,000". That's not how you look at a vaccine. A vaccine won't save all the 10,000 people that would be killed by the virus without a vaccine. Even with the vaccine, many will still die. Just look at the seasonal flu, even with the mass vaccination that we have now in the US, ~70,000 still died of the flu in the current flu season. Close to 100 million in the US still got infected of the seasonal flu. An effective and safe vaccine will save many, but not all of them. So with a questionable vaccine, you will have people dying of the virus (unable to be saved by the vaccine) AND people killed by the vaccine itself. What you end up with is not much of a difference. What is different is that many people, who would otherwise show little symptom to the virus, will be killed by the vaccine.

Wishing for a vaccine as this point is highly unrealistic. No responsible pharmaceuticals nor medical researchers will release a premature vaccine at this point. No one!

Not enough reagents for tests.

35 out of 70 approved tests are junk.

Then FDA opens test to all.

Good way to reduce case numbers.
