It is not like Pfizer or Moderna can prevent infections.

“If you received two doses or three doses of Sinovac or Sinopharm, those vaccines frankly are doing their job,” said Vin Gupta, an affiliate assistant professor at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, an independent global health research center at the University of Washington.

The shots don’t prevent infection, but are keeping people out of hospitals — “exactly what they should be doing,” he told CNBC’s

The perspective that is missing from most write up on the Covid situation in HK.

The vaccination rate has been consistently low, amplified by opposition parties spreading conspiracy theories and promoting vaccine hesitancy. However, the government response to the low vaccination rate was advertising and gentle (but ineffective) persuasion. This approach is even more liberal than many Western countries which have imposed restrictions on the movements of unvaccinated people.

Coping is harder than bashing sometimes. Prof. Yasheng Huang really engaged in mental gymnastics and used twisted logic to cope with China's COVID success. The straightforward explanation of the situation is of course that China should be especially proud because they controlled COVID so well despite being a poorer country and having less healthcare facilities than the U.S. On the other hand, U.S. should be ashamed even more because so many died despite being one of the richest country in the world and having more healthcare facilities.

Guess what? Further digging turns out that Prof. Huang is the genius behind a 2003 article that suggests that India may overtake China.

Well India is notorious for resting on their laurels meaning no advancement. This Yasheng Huang I can understand why Westerners have a stereotype of how Chinese are untrustworthy with what they have to say. San Francisco had two "venerable" newspapers, the San Francisco Chronicle and the San Francisco Examiner. When the internet came about to then affect the business of newspapers in the US, the Examiner took a harder hit and went for sale. A known rich Chinese family in the SF Bay Area bought it. The veteran journalists of the Examiner fled because of the reputation that Asian newspapers don't report the news. They only write articles that served a political bias for one side only. Yeah I can see that throughout Asia. Even the ones that want to look legitimate like the SCMP, they publish articles that overly want to look neutral meaning perpetuating Western political world views. The irony is these days Western news mediums are openly guilty of doing the same writing for whatever political side they lean. They don't report the news. They want to make the news.
