Coronavirus 2019-2020 thread (no unsubstantiated rumours!)

Intrepid

Omicron can easily bypass protection from any 2-dose vaccine. This is why everyone is pushing for a booster shot

However even with a 2-dose vaccine, it still provides protection for hospitalisation/death
It's a matter of time. After three to six months, the vaccination protection fades, regardless of whether after a double vaccination or a booster vaccination. That means we will have to get vaccinated at least twice, better three times a year.

There are some studies that show that maybe it would be better for the vaccines to target T-cell immunity

Current vaccines target the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2. This protein mutates frequently, which could make currently available vaccines less effective.
Researchers in the United States recently investigated the effects of T cells that recognize a different protein in the virus — one that does not mutate as quickly as the spike protein.
T cells are a type of white blood cell that can ‘remember’ antigens for decades. Vaccines developed using this new approach may provide more lasting protection.
Such T cell responses would not neutralize the virus and prevent infection but could target the virus-infected cells to limit virus production and spread within the host to lessen the severity of disease.”

In contrast, the current vaccines who need to be administrated every 3-6 months are quite a good business for pharma companies. Almost like a subscription model, print money until the end of time

So is Big Pharma stock a go or no go? Are they already inflated?

I agree with your point, unless you are immunocompromised, elderly, comorbid, or pregnant, annual boosters to prevent infection may not be absolutely necessary, because for both mRNA and inactivated vaccines, they have high protection against hospitalization and severe disease and death, despite waning efficacy against infection. This is primarily because they both elicit secondary cellular T-cell response. This is true even against Delta variant.

Singapore media has been regurgitating American media on sinovac. Quite sad to see this
The reality is that China needs to get out its mRNA vaccines, as well as T-cell vaccines, pills, and vastly improve its general biotech capabilities. This area generally gets less attention than semiconductors but it is as, if not more, important.
