Remember when the world was in the vaccine development stage, the West charged China was going to engage in vaccine nationalism where China would vaccinate it's own people before anyone else...? And you still have those in the media lie that China's vaccines are ineffective because of diminished efficacy that they're experiencing as well.

Pretty much everything they say China is going to do is what they are planning on doing. Anything they say China is doing is something they have done.

So there was some debate a few pages back regarding the battle over the CanSino vaccine.
There was some debate over what level of involvement Canada had with the vaccine. The way I had seen it (reading between the lines), China had put up some red tape and probably expected the Canadian government to play ball. Instead they didn't and wasted all the researchers' on both sides time.

Today there was a big news that a pharma company in Canada had licensed out their mRNA tech to a Chinese company to distribute the products in China and SE Asia. This company's CEO is highly critical of the government, so perhaps that reading of the CanSino situation was not too far off.

If we look at that Chile article, we can really see how absurd the media reporting around the Chinese vaccines were, it is almost like a colonial mindset governing the reporting. The western media made it seem like the medical professionals and government officials in these countries were basically savages and easily hoodwinked by Chinese vaccine shysters.

This isn't just nonsense "vaccine diplomacy", it is an informed decision by most countries dictated by science, cost, and availability. Chile did not rely on Sinovac alone. They bought 8 million doses of Pfizer, but only have received them all recently. Even today the WHO has yet to approve any non Western origin vaccines besides Sinopharm and Sinovac. Statistically they might not be the best, but better to have something rather than the best nothing.
