What Taiwan can only test ~2000 people every day??

I know 3rd world countries which with a comparable population can test much more than Taiwan does in a single day
More like only 2000 wanted to pay through the nose for tests.

Although this could/should mean things aren’t as bad as the infected percentage suggests given the fact this wasn’t a randomised population test with significant selection bias, since people who are sympathetic and/or been in close contact with confirmed cases are more likely to be willing to pay to be tested.

Shit's getting serious in Wanwanland.... hospitals are overflowing with the sick, patients being treated in car parks, while the power stoppage from last week has yet to be solved fully, with 30% of the island in the dark, Kaohsiung being hit hardest (or darkest).

All this is from social media and whatsapp from folks crying for help, none of this will make the news of course, where the official line is everything's fine and Tsai has shit under control.

Is this the result of "用愛發電"/"Use love to produce electricity" movement?

Assuming that's true, 178 usd is so much ripoff. Any mainland governor charging that price would be investigated for corruption.
Wow. I assumed Taiwan was doing a reasonable job of managing covid. Weren't they boasting to the WHO around this time last year that they should be a model on how to manage a pandemic?

Charging that much for a test is a public health disaster waiting to happen. Poor social groups who are most likely to spread covid will be unable to afford testing and will just go on to spread the disease

Even capitalist countries like the UK and USA recognise this and now have free and quick testing.

My pet theory is that the new strains from Britain and India are more heat resistant, taking away their geographical advantage. Even states like Malaysia and Indonesia which didn’t implement strict lockdowns did well last year.
