Re: Consequences of Flanker and PAK FA exports for the PACRIM from US-allied perspect
your on it munky, it amazes me that the common man is certain the J-10 is a Sino original, so the J-20 is the real prize and as someone noted the stealth of the T-50 is largely the F-22 forward fuse shape the J-bird does share that distinctive shape, but with the forward chining providing a good deal of forward fuselage lift, likely as a natural "foil" to the supersonic phenomena of "mach tuck", the tendency to tuck under as you go supersonic and beyond. The J-20 is a revolution as such, because even though their are some familiar design elements, much of the engineering is at a very high level and requires a superior design philosophy to integrate into a cohesive and attractive airframe with lots of room for growth and innovation. If you check out Dr. Songs paper it will give you a clear perspective of the design challenges that faced the J-20 team.
I would contest that the true development capabilities of the PLA should be based upon the J-20, rather than the J-10. The J-10 has its israeli roots much like those of the Flanker, except not as transparent. The J-20 however, is a truely distinctive bird, albeit still in testing, but a revolutionary development in China's ability to build airframes.
