I think when Chinese jets start flying there will be so many countrys wanting to order, becasue right now if u are refused from Western countrys u have no other opition but soon there will be one from China
AS POINTED OUT EARLIER; CERTIFICATION would be the deciding factor. The only countries I know of that have a complete trade ban against them is Cuba and Burma. I dont think theres a ban in selling civilian aircraft to Venezuela. or any other South American Country.

In today's opening of 2009 Asia Airshow in Hong Kong.
edit..
C919 is making its first international public appearance in model form. It has 150 seat, and will be make in co-operation with other Asian, European and US partners.
I got photo but I can't copy them from my computer. It is a twin engine aircraft similar to Airbus A320.
:china: A model of the 150-seat C919 passenger plane is displayed at the Asian Aerospace Expo in Hong Kong September 8, 2009. China's main aircraft maker will select engine suppliers for its home-grown big aircraft project C919 by the end of 2009, a senior executive said on Tuesday.

They cant buy American planes and the US govt only had a trade ban pertaining to selected items since 79, and I do remember reading that the Iranian Govt had concluded an agreement to purchase 10 Airbuses from France/ Uk in 2002/3. So it appears that they can turn to Europe, depending on the diplomatic situation at the time.
THis brings me to another point about the Chances of Chinese success in long range aircraft in 300-400 passenger capacity. One would only have to look at the demise of Madonell Douglas. ITs last plane the MD11 would suggest that it isnt just about engines that can determine the outcome of the venture.
And then theres Lockheed, which flagged away passenger aircraft manufacturing after the TRi Star

Didn't Iran purchase a couple of Y-8 aircraft about 2 years ago? What ever happened to those planes? Was the order ever confirmed?
