Doesn't feel too soon for me. It's been a couple years since BF3 already. Entire new operating systems are released within similar timeframes.

Good for you, i7...trump you on the graphic card department though.

Now, the COH2 open beta led me to believe I've to scale back on the settings - by current rig won't get an average FPS beyond 26 if on max.

Just trolling haha. But yea you won the graphics card section, which is the most important in gaming.

I bought the 3930 core because when I buy desktop, it's for all-purpose (including gaming, downloading porn LOL, work, everything), and I try to get it for last as long as I can before my system goes obsolete with the mainstream, so I hope this 6-core can last me a while. How long do you guys think this 6-core can last?

I could never get used to the controls of game consoles. If they gave an option to plug a mouse and keyboard to the consoles and configure them like you could with a PC, I would switch in a heartbeat. After endless hours wasted trouble shooting and debugging PC games and far too much money wasted on them, the prospect of hassle free plug and play and the ability to both rent and resell used games are very appealing.

But the fiddly controls would just get in the way too much of my immersion and enjoyment of games.

Seriously, how hard can it be to implement mouse and keyboard control on a console?

PC gaming has other advantages than just keyboard and mouse. For one thing, games like Elder Scrolls isn't 1/10 as fun without the community mods, which are not available on consoles. You also have access to a lot of cheap but fun indie games from Steam.

Most PC games nowadays are pretty much plug-and-play. The only problem you'll have is if your PC doesn't or barely meets the recommended requirements.

Microsoft does a big U-turn with Xbox One but does the NSA still get to watch you?

Well if ain't the NSA there's always someone somewhere watching you...even if it ain't from the government, what makes you think M$ / Sony / Google / Yahoo! / your ISPs ain't keeping tabs on you? This is an age that Big Brother is everywhere and in every flavours and colors, period.

If you don't like it, go completely offline like UBL...just don't go that far of burning trash in your backyard, you don't want some 4-eyed SEALs bust down your door in the dead of night, eh?

Yeah I prefer a mouse and keyboard myself. I like first person games. When you're aiming with a game controller, it's not as precise as a mouse. When I was playing the 1st or 2nd Unreal Tournament games. There was an arena where I could perch on top of a very tall tower with a sniper rifle and I was getting head shots left and right one after the other and all these decapitated heads would bounce off the ground like basketballs. I wouldn't be able to do that as easy with a game controller stick.

Game graphics have advanced but game play hasn't. I was watching one of the E3 game conferences and they had a game set during the Roman Empire. I think it was called Ryses. It looked great but it was just you watching and press a certain button or move the game controller just to see what happens next. You had no control of what you wanted to do or where to go on your own. It reminded me of the arcade game when I was a kid called Dragon's Lair. Back then it was different and popular because of it because it was like watching a cartoon movie but all you did was move the joy stick in the direction when it told you to or you died.

I feel you on this one, though the "controller vs keyboard + mouse" debate is as eternal as it gets, I afraid.

Until the day we can make control inputs with brainwaves, or at least optical tracking, and hand gesture tracking no longer as restrictive as kinect is, it's still hard to beat the traditional inputs...

What parts of Kinect's hand tracking are restrictive?

Minimum distance between the unit and the user...that said, it's good if you got a big room, but for those who don't (mind you, that's common in Japan and many Asian countries & cities) it's something most won't bother to buy.

What I'm talking about is those kind of hand gesture coordinated controls seen in sci-fi shows...best if it doesn't require the user wearing some kind of harness...

Maybe you should look into this:

A new startup by University of Waterloo graduates. It detects the electric signals that goes through your muscles to determine what gesture you are making.

I agree with the room size issue.

The Kinect 2 is a pretty decent upgrade in this regard, and it also can track finger movements as well. So we can actually get those sci-fi gestures you're referring to now. :) .
