I was wondering why the Marvel Rivals news that it had fired its US developers branch didn't gain traction. It was because they were a bunch of lazy freeloaders riding off a success that wasn't theirs.
But sources we interviewed said that the Marvel Rivals team being fired by NetEase is just the start. Those sources said the company is losing its will to make games using overseas staff. Part of that reason is the high cost of U.S. developers in particular. Another reason is that China’s game developers have also matured enough to make triple-A games, as seen by the success of China-based Game Science’s Black Myth: Wukong, which has sold tens of millions of copies.
One of Game File’s sources says NetEase plans to divest itself of the majority of its overseas teams, leading to the potential closure of more than a dozen game studios, if they can’t secure new post-NetEase funding.
NetEase is actively shopping around more of its non-Chinese studios—many of the very same ones it announced over the last three years—two people familiar with the company’s efforts tell Game File.
The story surrounding NetEase seems more interesting than their layoffs with US studio assets with Marvel Rivals. Apparently, NetEase is dumping the majority of their foreign assets. Funding and investments into developing the Chinese gaming industry appears to gaining interest.
This is one of my favorites game, this game together with the C&C Generals china bulldozer kind of China pilled me back when i was like 14 xDAnybody interested in ancient Chinese culture and city building games might like to check out Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom. I first played it many years ago and I recently bought it again and I can't put it down. This game has it all, the buildings, the history, the folk religions, Taoism, music and culture. You can pick it up for about 5 money. Highly recommended.
