Chinese game studio Hoothanes (CN: 浩汤科技) just released a trailer on their game "The Defiant" (CN: 抵抗者), set during the Second Sino-Japanese War/World War II.

BM:WK is deservingly a historic moment, but this game would be revolutionary if it lands on two feet. A game that tells China's modern history with its own voice would, without exaggeration, be the first time ever in video gaming history. Translated the video description and the game developers seem to understand quite well that this is the real and crucial story of China that "ought to be told better," to

, and which Chinese video gaming has long waited for:
"We have never witnessed those dark years,
Nor have we experienced the parting of life and death.
It is only because the world we live in
Was bought with their faith and lives.
They all have names—
Some are remembered,
But many have been lost in the river of history.
They are the resistors.

The official gameplay trailer for the single-player FPS game "Resistor" by Haotang Technology has been released.
All footage in this video is taken from the game's actual running scenes. This is currently in early development stages and does not represent the final quality.

Pick up your weapon and become a resistor.
This work is dedicated to those who fought their entire lives for the liberation of the Chinese people."

The game is a first-person shooter set in 1940s China, combining elements of espionage and action shooting. We strive to recreate the scenery of that time to enhance players' immersion. In the future, there will also be a rich firearms system. The game chapters will span different battlefields in China, allowing players to take on various roles in the fight against the invaders. It is still in early development, and there are many visible flaws, but we will work hard to improve it. Please stay tuned!

This has honestly been one of my dream game concepts.

From the trailer one thing that I find a bit disappointing is a seeming lack of weight to gun firing. It's something nearly all western devs also fail to implement.

My dream game would be a Chinese version of Bethesda Games Studios. With how bad things are going downhill for BGS, I really hope a Chinese studio can step up and make something similar. I'm tired of BGS making sequels that are continually worse than the previous games. Absolutely zero quality control.

Fallout Series from Chinese perspective would be rad.

Oh, Hell yes! I had an idea for basing H-20s in mountain caverns if they were at risk from US strikes.
It's probably impractical irl, but what an awesome ending it would be for a Chinese Fallout game if the PC were to discover this mountain base centuries later with the bombers intact and armed.

If you've read Nausicaa by Miyazaki, the map looks a lot like the Bohai region. It's overall a very cool post apocalyptic world and it's not too much of a stretch to think that the climate purge plan was ordered by a multinational crisis committee stand in for China, like Liu Cixin often has in his novels.

I think that's maybe my idea of what the Asian wasteland looks like.

As long as it's made by a Chinese and not by any western developer. I do not expect them to do our side without modern-day politics and some real-world history. If it's done today, it's going to be more AC shadows than Ghost in Tsushima. There will be no respect for the culture or people at hand. But that's difficult on its own since that Fallout ain't following real-world history. China in the Fallout series is like Cold War-era China but no one ever left the Cold War and instead just evolved further into it.
