The problem is that @horobeyo doesnt really offer much analysis to counter Sutton's suggestions. As I noted before, we have multiple in service or in evaluation designs worldwide abiding by the same design principles for UUV applications. None of which are for high speed or weapons applications or both. While I disagree with Sutton's assessments quite regularly on particular topics, I also wouldn't dismiss his knowledge on UUV etc development.

As I've mentioned before, right now we've got more questions than answers. I just dont think dismissing certain IMO sound suggestions on use can be considered wishcasting. Generally speaking more ambitious claims tend to be proven untrue over more moderate operational parameters, more often than not. In any case its wait and see.

I spent a long time looking at the mystery UUV and this is what I came up with. Thoughts?

IF you have a torpedo just hit the ship with the torpedo, then there is no way for interception. Why go with the hassle of the torpedo going all the way there but then launching a missile that will be intercepted by air defense?

-missiles can hit targets on land (Guam, Hawaii, CONUS, etc) while torpedo can only hit ships
-lack of sensors or autonomous decision-making to attack moving targets on the UUV
-much longer range

A small (normal) size of uuv allegedly.

Torpedos can home in ship noise, this is old technology. Usually one torpedo hit is enough to sink a ship. Anti-Ship missiles often cannot sink a ship in one hit.

How about a UUV that carries a SLBM? If it's like a Poseidon, I read it would have the range of around 5000 miles if it's one way and then add the range of the ballistic missile. That's a lot of area it can hide in the ocean being within range of the target.
