Re: Chinese sub thread

Nice picture xcswimmer. But I got a newsflash for you. Ain't gonna happen. Explain to me how that Flanker will penatrate US air defence?

I really think this thread is turning into " I can blow you up better than you can blow me up" kinda thing...Silly. I've been guilty of this also.:(

Some poster simply refuse to believe that the US equipment works well or works at all. And tend to think that the PLA equipment is "all that"

Some posters think that same about US equipment. ..Gee I wonder who that could be????

US antimissile capability is very high. But looking at the performance of Gulf Wars 1 and 2 (the second one because they shot down their own), it is FAR from perfect and against a modern military like China, they will lose ships and lose planes

War sucks. Been there..done that. War is not a perfect science. There are mistakes. Yes the US made a few mistakes in the Gulf Wars. But the US equipment triumphed over the enemies Russian equipment. The USAF lost 14 combat aircraft during the first Gulf war and 3 in the second. Not bad considering the number of stories flown an aircraft flown.

That said .. when you condider how much of the PLA equipment is of Russian design or cloned or back engineered...What would be the outcome be in any sort of US vs PRC confrontation?

So they question is: even if they are highly favored to win a battle at sea, are they prepared to pay the costs for what looks like little or no benefit?

The US military is. Because that's their job. But the US media love to wring it's hands over US casuilties causing disension among the US populace. Also the US media does not like to publish casulities among the enemey thereby creating an illousion of dispair.

x31p is a russian antiradiation missile as far as i know. I've seen the range figure for it cited at around 50 km. JH-7A has been tested using it, chinese sukhoi 30s should also be able to use it. But it's not the latest design, who knows how effective it is.

Yes, sir Gauntlet. It looks very much like the Krypton. And this attack profile was built with the SU-33 Naval Flanker in mind. A very lethal combo.

Edited to add: Yes, anti-radiation and home-on-jam capabilities.

Serbia is a TINY TINY two-bit country with 60/70's era Russian equipment. China's equipment is (at this moment and in certain fields) nearly on par with Russia's latest. Not to mention that Russia and China are much bigger countries.

If past performance (which I appreciate you citing) is any measure, US will lose ships and aircraft in a confrontation with China. How many? Certaintly more on an order of magnitude than in Serbia and Iraq 1 (Iraq 2 was post-embargo).

If the US will lose one or two CVBG, are the American public going to accept this? Presidents are civilians (lawyers) not generals. I don't think America is going to risk that over Taiwan.

Well chinese material in most is even more outdated than Serbian ones that included 80's technology as well...

...but thats just to make me feel little 'smarter':D

1999 Serbian campaing was perfect example of how mythical aspects US military migth have achieved beating badly wartorne, ill trained and motivated Iraq army nine years earlyer. When considering some possiple confrontation agaisnt US, you always have to look waht sosial acpects it has. Is the war suported by US 'home front' and in what extense? How much cassuals US is prepared to take to beat you up? US military has the power enough to beat even PRC, but it would take lot of blood, if not US troops, then from chinese civilians, and in modern world, thats is become unaceptable. When NATO waved their warflag against Beograd, everybody, including me thougth it was going to be an easy take and Serbians would fall into their knees in fron of superior Opponent. Well we all know what happened. Milosevic was replaced, eventually, but not directly from NATOs actions. He would have gone anyway, NATO just speeded things up, but lost their change to decide who was to took the lead. So Orginal agenda of NATO wasent acomplised, and Serbians lost KOsovo, but did they lose the war when we all know what NATOs ultimate plans were?
the concept of resistant-victory (a finnish odity meaning similar situation what we faced in spring 1940) seems to be bit unfamiliar to you, But I belive that any nation of well motified and reasonably enogh equiped army can beat the biggest opponent in todays world.

But enough of politics and more of chinese subs...

I dont think there is any submarine launched versions of the Sunburn yet. Not even Russia has them. They uses the Shipwreck on their missile carrying Oscar II.
It's true the Oscar II is armed with the Shipwreck. But the Victor III sub can be armed with 6 P-100 Oniks/SS-N-22 Sunburn missiles. :coffee:
