It's always the koreans who come up with these numbers first:

For Oct (very volatile, so look at YTD numbers),
  1. Orders in October amounted to 2.91 million CGT (118 ships), down 33% from the previous month (4.37 million CGT) and 38% from the same month last year (4.71 million CGT)
  2. Korea recorded 520,000 CGT (9 vessels, 18% share), while China recorded 2.13 million CGT (98 vessels, 73%).
  3. The equivalent tonnage per vessel was 58,000 CGT for Korea and 22,000 CGT for China
For YTD
  1. Cumulative orders from January to October totaled 37.89 million CGT (1,392 vessels), a 43% decrease from the same period last year (66.49 million CGT)
  2. Korea accounted for 8.06 million CGT (183 vessels, 21%), while China accounted for 22.39 million CGT (895 vessels, 59%)
  3. The global order backlog totaled 167.79 million CGT, with China accounting for 11.96 million CGT (61%) and Korea for 20%

  2. Korean shipbuilders secured orders for 1.97 million CGT (40 vessels), taking a 38% market share.
  3. China secured orders for 2.58 million CGT (100 vessels), taking a 50% market share.

Slightly unrelated, but must point out the miracle that is Korea. For a country with only 50 million people, operating at ~4% the size of China, with even lesser resources available, it has become a giant in many field, be it industry, culture, sports, etc. It punches far beyond its weight. If China were to reach per capita performance of Korea, it would already be pre-eminent in the world.

An award ceremony for the 703 institute, but the important part is the last two paragraphs. Posted by SOYO

On the same day, at the China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s Science and Technology Innovation Conference and the “Academician Forum,” a core event of Science and Technology Week, Academician Lin Feng from the 703 Institute delivered a lecture titled “Development and Challenges of New Ship Power Systems,” giving an in-depth explanation of the core role of marine propulsion in the strategy of building China into a strong maritime power, as well as its future development direction.

Looking to the future, the 703 Institute will continue to focus on major national strategic needs such as building China into a strong maritime power, a science and technology power, and a manufacturing power. Relying on its accumulated technological advantages in marine propulsion, gas turbines, and marine equipment, it will persist in tackling key technologies and promoting innovation in system integration, contributing solid strength to raising the modernization level of China’s marine power equipment and advancing the development of high-end equipment.

Agree, which is why I have said several times before . Korea is probably the country that punches the most above its weight on earth to be honest. They are so prevalent and dominant in so many fields it’s actually a surprise and wonder how they manage to achieve this with such a small population and territory and even more so barely any natural resources. I have to commend them for their hard work and ingenuity . Can’t deny their success .
