China built large ferry ro ro ship for Algeria
The first ro-ro passenger ship built by China for Algeria departed from Guangzhou in south China’s Guangdong Province for Port of Algiers on Thursday. Built by Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited, the luxury ro-ro passenger ship is the first cooperation project of this kind between China and Algeria. The ship can accommodate 1,800 passengers and 600 vehicles. With 12 decks, the ship has various function-rich public places such as restaurants, duty-free shops, and bars, covering a total floor space of more than 20,000 square meters.
There are nearly 100 rooms for crew members and more than 500 guest rooms on the ship, including two independent presidential suites with sea views, four deluxe suites, and eight VIP suites. The ship has incorporated elements of Algerian culture and art in decoration. Compared with previous luxury ro-ro passenger ships built by Guangzhou Shipyard International, the most special feature of the ship is that its interior decoration materials and most equipment were made in China. Also, it has adopted a large number of novel technologies.
"The ship has over 600 rooms, and we adopted the technology of modular construction. Modular units of whole cabins were first built on the land. Then, they were hoisted from the land to the deck one by one. The installation is simple and convenient. Therefore, the labor intensity of our workers has been greatly reduced," said Zhou Xuhui, deputy general manager of Guangzhou Shipyard International. In addition, the ship has the advantage of easy maneuverability. It can quickly turn around in a sea area only 500 meters wide, which is 2.5 times the length of the ship. The ship is an important cooperation between China and Algeria in the development of the marine economy. I
t is also a step of the Guangzhou Shipyard International to participated in the Belt and Road construction, promote industrial cooperation between China and Algeria, and support the development of Algeria's maritime industry. Ro-ro passenger ship is also called roll-on/roll-off ship. Cargo can be carried into and out of the ship's warehouse by the vessel's own power instead of a port's. The ship can also carry passengers. In most cases, such ships are used for inland waterway transportation and short- and medium-distance shipping.
