as for 5g, much of the world don’t really care about 5g because speed is not significantly better with it.
Even in China and Hong Kong, Huawei did not report the Pura 70 as having 5G (possibly due to licensing issues), even though the download/upload speed is at 5G or even 5.5G level. This is also the case with the Mate 60 series.
The point is in EU vendors cannot just sell phones without certification, and if you want to sell a 5G or 4G phone you have to certify it as such. Also in China there is this national agency, I'd guess is called
. Indeed I never fully understood how it was possible for Huawei to sell a 5G phone like the Mate 60 without official radio frequency certification with the national regulation authority.
So if they advertise Pura 70 in EU as 4G it means it must be 4G, it can't become 5G by surprise!
I would not dismiss the Snapdragon scenario, because it would make a lot of sense. It would be a clever move by Huawei to keep US quiet...and at the same time increase their revenues and presence abroad, practically they would bribe US for gaining another year or two, until SMIC fully develops enough capacity.
We in the forum made some quantitative speculations few weeks ago on the needed capacity of SMIC. If Huawei really plans to sell 60M Kirin 9010 in China this year+ Ascend + Kunpeng, the capacity will be very tight...moreover maybe SMIC does not want to give all their 7nm capacity to HW...many in China need that 7nm but can't go to TSMC.
So not only I consider the "Snapdragon on international market" a viable option...but I will even double down now....I think it makes sense that also memory chips will not be Chinese for the international version...maybe they can even buy from
Micron!
We know also CXMT capacity is quite tight if they have to feed 60M HW phones + Xiaomi + all the others.
Samsung, SK Hynix and Mediatek are forbidden by US to sell to Huawei, but Qualcomm and Intel can, so I would not be surprised if US gives the license to Micron too...and only to Micron because...you know..."allies".
