Looks US semiconductor restrictions and China semiconductor domestication drive is putting pressure to foreign equipment makers, from making their tools inside China or other part of Asia to increasing the use of local components to entice local companies worry of export controls and avoiding US export controls. This is happening even in areas no affected by export controls.

Behind a series of advantages, PVA is inseparable from the experience and technology accumulated in the crystal growth process over the years. At the same time, the "four modernizations" requirements of "Designed in Germany, Made in China", namely localization of technical teams, localization of service manufacturing, globalization of supply chains, and consistent quality standards, are also the key to ensuring the overall technological leadership.

According to Wang Mi, technical director of PVA Xi'an Pufa Semiconductor, the components of this equipment come from local suppliers, especially the proportion of mechanical components has exceeded 80%.
We are now also further controlling or localizing electronic components. Inquiries, selections and substitutions, we hope that the final proportion will reach 80%.

Under the trend of localization, how does PVA view competitive challenges?

As we all know, for a long time in the past, these key equipment, including silicon carbide crystal growth equipment, have relied heavily on imports. In recent years, driven by market demand, domestic silicon carbide equipment has developed rapidly. The localization of equipment will help to reduce the cost of silicon carbide, improve the market competitiveness of domestic enterprises, and accelerate the catching up with the international advanced level.

Facing domestic "friends" "Competitive momentum," Xie Xiuhong said, "We are very happy to see the technological progress of local equipment suppliers. In fact, we are growing with them and with our customers."

Facing competition, PVA has many advantages. On the one hand, cross-field equipment manufacturing experience is some of PVA’s unique technical know-how, and the experience or design applied in other crystal industries will be applied to silicon carbide equipment. Compared with some local equipment manufacturers, PVA's business is relatively broad and covers a wider range of areas. It can produce basically all types of equipment, and there should be more experience to draw from.

I don't want to be a conspiracy theorists but Karl Zeiss is building a big Clean Room to manufacture optical components and they are using a Chinese company for that likely to avoid using any US technology in this endeavor.

Could be they want to make export control free lithography components for the Chinese market?

Hejie Technology Purification Project undertook the construction of Zeiss Electronics and Optical dust-free workshop project and officially started.

NEW YORK (Reuters) -The U.S. Justice Department's long-running criminal case accusing China's Huawei of misleading banks about the tech company's business in Iran, among other charges, is heading toward a January 2026 trial.

At a status conference on Thursday in Brooklyn, New York, Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander Solomon told U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly that "settlement discussions ended in an impasse. We believe it would be prudent to schedule a trial date."

The judge said she thought a "good placeholder" date for the trial to start would be the beginning of January 2026.

The case, which has long strained U.S.-China ties, began in 2018 with a sealed indictment that led to Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou being detained in Vancouver, Canada, on a U.S. warrant.

As part of a 2021 deal, the charges against Meng, who is also the daughter of the company's founder, were dismissed.

The broader case against Huawei is pending. Huawei has pleaded not guilty.

Double channeled nanotube gate all around field effect transistor with drive current boosted

School of Integrated Circuits, Tsinghua University, Beijing 100083, People's Republic of China
Shenzhen SoC Key Laboratory, PKU-HKUST Shenzhen-Hong Institution, Shenzhen 518057, China

Abstract

Gate all around field effect transistor (GAAFET) presents a resurgence ascribed to its enhanced gate electrostatic controllability by virtue of surrounding gate structure in coping with increasingly serious power consumption dissipation and short channel effects (SCE) degradation as the semiconductor technology enters into sub-10 nm technology node. Nanotube GAAFET (NT GAAFET) with inner and outer channels surrounded by inner and outer gates proves to be superior than nanowire GAAFET in drive current (Ion) augmentation and SCEs inhibition attributed to enhanced gate electrostatic integrity, holding promise to expand the Moore's law Roadmap further beyond. Herein, we demonstrate a doubled-channeled NT GAAFET (DC NT GAAFET) structure with Ion (total value) boost in comparison with NT GAAFET and NW GAAFET with the same footprint. Ion gains of 64.8% and 1.7 times have been obtained in DC NT GAAFET in compared with NT GAAFET and NW GAAFET. Ioff (total value) of DC NT GAAFET degrades by 61.8% than that of NT GAAFET. Whereas SS and Ion/Ioff ratio are almost comparable in DC NT GAAFET and NT GAAFET, indicating the sustained superior gate electrostatic controllability in DC NT GAAFET with respect to NT GAAFET regardless of additional channel incorporated. On the other side, both DC NT GAAFET and NT GAAFET exhibit superior device performance than NW GAAFET in terms of high operation speed and better electrostatic controllability manifested by suppressed SCEs.

FORESEE's new industrial-grade DDR4 SODIMM, high reliability helps industrial automation data storage

2024.03.29
Today, as smart manufacturing and industrial automation become increasingly sophisticated, the real-time, stability and durability of data processing have become key indicators to measure system performance. As the core component of the storage system, the performance and stability of the memory stick directly affect the performance of the entire system. Operational effects, especially in key areas such as industrial control, power applications, and telecommunications equipment, place more stringent requirements on the stability and durability of memory modules.

Recently, Longsys launched the new FORESEE industrial grade DDR4 SODIMM to provide a powerful and reliable "stable core" for computer systems in harsh industrial environments.

FORESEE industrial-grade DDR4 SODIMM covers a variety of capacity options of 4GB , 8GB , 16GB , and 32GB. It has three design architectures : 1R×8 , 2R×8 , and 1R×16. The rate can reach 3200Mbps , the power consumption is 1.2V , and it supports ECC ( Error correcting code ) function effectively reduces the risk of potential data errors and ensures stable operation of the system. With excellent reliability performance, the products can be widely used in a variety of high-demand terminal equipment such as industrial automation, industrial computers, telecommunications equipment, medical equipment, rail transit, and power equipment.

(Reuters) - The United States and the European Union committed to extend by three years their cooperation on identifying disruptions in the semiconductor sector, with a particular emphasis on mainstream "legacy" chips from China.

The two sides concluded a two-day session of their Trade and Technology Council on Friday with a l2-page joint statement on the meeting's outcomes.

It said the two partners would share market intelligence about "non-market" policies and practices, which they argue prevail in China, and consult on planned action to address distortions on the global supply chain.

European Commission Vice President Margrethe Vestager, who oversees EU policy on technology, said the EU and U.S. were taking "the next steps" regarding legacy semiconductors.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo told a news conference that China was producing some 60% of legacy chips, found in cars, household appliances and medical devices, and would continue to do so in the coming years.

"And we know there's a massive subsidisation of that industry on behalf of the Chinese government which could lead to huge market distortion. And so that's why we're focused on it," she said.

The Commerce Department has already launched a survey to assess market distortion, she said, adding that the EU would do a similar exercise soon, with the two set to share their results.
