Chinese semiconductor thread II

He's says ASML's china revenue will drop significantly in 2026, but it has nothing to do with stockpiling. He claims that there's no stockpile and every machine they delivered so far is already installed in fabs. So it has to be one of the following three possibilities.

(1) He is lying. There's a stockpile and China will continue to use it for expansion in coming years.
(2) China will use domestic ones for future expansion.
(3) Expansion will significantly slowdown from next year.
Could also be more than just one of the above. Two or all.

The two major unveils from the show by SiCarrier. PCB EDA & Oscilloscope. If you think these are not big deals, then you have not been paying attention to Trump admin comments of the past few days.

Lithography machine will be the last thing they unveil. Keep in mind that the EDA tool apparently has been used by 20000 engineers already and got good feedback. Chinese firm's domestic penetration is like 5%.

Oscilloscope is likely already used in many of the new equipment that SiCarrier has developed and have met expectations

I doubt it's the first option. Why would he lie about his own revenue dropping? He's not playing 4D chess.

Option 2 is fairly likely considering the talks about DUV machinery coming out, although we don't know for certain.

Option 3 is also sensible and we'll see if that's the case in due time.

I don't think so, I think lying to investors is pretty risky for a company like ASML

(3) Expansion will significantly slowdown from next year.
I don't think so, given that China wants to weed out US semiconductors products out of their supply chain, domestic substitution is more like de-Americanization. And given that China companies are starting from a very low base the room to growth is significant to said the least. Of course there will be companies who go under as always but overall given the low base that these companies and the geopolitical situation are starting, I think there is a lot room to growth.

Option 2 Is pretty clear that China wants the next generation of fabs to be tooled with domestic equipment and that include domestic lithography machines.

And a 4 option, the nuclear option. I think ASML may have received the order by US stooges to stop supplying immersion machines to China. This will decrease the revenue significantly.

A total investment of 200 million yuan! Another key semiconductor project landed in Hefei

According to news from Hefei Xinzhan District, on October 15, Xinzhan High-tech Zone and Hongqi (Hefei) Technology Co., Ltd. officially signed a contract for the semiconductor key equipment lampshade components and consumables project, filling the gap in domestic semiconductor core high-precision consumables.

Hongqi (Hefei) Technology Co., Ltd. is a high-tech enterprise specializing in the research and development and manufacturing of high-end precision semiconductor consumables. The company is committed to achieving localized production and innovative breakthroughs in core semiconductor components in China. Its main products include key consumables for semiconductor equipment, such as shower heads (gas distribution plates) and lamp housings, which are widely used in advanced manufacturing processes. Currently, Hongqi Technology is one of the few companies in China capable of mass-producing core components for 5nm advanced processes .

The project, with a total investment of 200 million yuan, plans to lease office buildings and factory space at the Core Vision Industrial Park. The company will primarily manufacture consumables such as lampshade assemblies and showerheads, core components for semiconductor lithography and cleaning processes.

Patterning Fidelity Enhancement and Aberration Mitigation in EUV Lithography Through Source–Mask Optimization

Abstract

Extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography faces critical challenges in aberration control and patterning fidelity as technology nodes shrink below 3 nm. This work demonstrates how Source–Mask Optimization (SMO) simultaneously addresses both illumination and mask design to enhance pattern transfer accuracy and mitigate aberrations. Through a comprehensive optimization framework incorporating key process metrics, including critical dimension (CD), exposure latitude (EL), and mask error factor (MEF), we achieve significant improvements in imaging quality and process window for 40 nm minimum pitch patterns, representative of 2 nm node back-end-of-line (BEOL) requirements. Our analysis reveals that intelligent SMO implementation not only enables robust patterning solutions but also compensates for inherent EUV aberrations by balancing source characteristics with mask modifications. On average, our results show a 4.02% reduction in CD uniformity variation, concurrent with a 1.48% improvement in exposure latitude and a 5.45% reduction in MEF. The proposed methodology provides actionable insights for aberration-aware SMO strategies, offering a pathway to maintain lithographic performance as feature sizes continue to scale. These results underscore SMO’s indispensable role in advancing EUV lithography capabilities for next-generation semiconductor manufacturing.

It seems that's it has to be option 2.

Option 1) Lying to ASML investors and stakeholders about dropping revenue is not logical, especially as the US-China feud keeps going. If anything, they'd be reassuring their customers that demand will stay or increase.

Option 3) China is still behind when it comes to advanced nodes. If they want to compete with AI against companies such as Nvidia, they need all the chips they can get, especially as Chinese chips aren't as powerful individually, so more capacity is needed to compensate.

Option 4) the US surely would've made ASML stop buying DUV earlier? Why would they let China stockpile so much in 2023/24 and not do anything?

We've also heard leaks about domestic DUV, so I guess that supports my argument as well.

I guess that puts an end to the clowns claiming SiCarrier is vaporware.
