Since we are ending the year, we can say China IC had achieved a lot, 2020 will be remembered as the start of Chinese IC renaissance. In 2021 almost all spectrum of manufacturing indigenous 28nm and 14nm chips will be achieved, not leading edge BUT at least self sufficient. While in Chip Design we are on par or leading in some areas as stated below, (will not post the YT video, members that is interested please see the inscription below) It also include packaging and 3D stacking tech.

Some areas needed to focus on in 2022

1)Improvement on SSA800 DUVL to ASML NXT 2000i -2050i level.

2) 7nm chip indigenous program.

3) power source for both enhance DUVL and EUVL program

Hi everyone, welcome to Eyes of Real China. Eyes of Real China is focusing on Chinese latest and prevalent news and events. With the environment of globalization, more and more people are following the changes of China. So we will show you what a real China is. Today we will talk about the topic of China's chip is unstoppable! 2 chips came out one after another, it only took 120 hours! With the weakness of chip shortage and USA sanction, Chinese technical experts and tech giant enterprises like Alibaba、Xindong Technology are trying to develop self-developed chip. In these days, 2 new Chinese chips came out, and it just took 120 hours. Let us view about its details. Nowadays, the world is deeply stuck in the predicament of core shortage, and many countries and companies around the world are rushing to enter the game. After all, core shortage is a challenge and a rare opportunity. China, as a world-renowned manufacturing powerhouse, will naturally not remain silent in the current international situation. Recently, China's core technology and Alibaba Dharma Institute, two well-known semiconductor companies and institutions have successively developed two Chinese cores. So, what about these two Chinese cores? With the appearance of these two domestic chips, what are the impacts on China? Two Chinese cores have come out one after another. Of the two Chinese chips, one is the "Fenghua No. 1" released by Xindong Technology, and the other is the integrated storage-calculation chip released by Alibaba Dharma Academy. Let's first take a look at the first model, the "Fenghua One" of Insulation Technology, to see if this chip is truly worthy of its name and whether it is truly outstanding. On the afternoon of November 26, Xindong Technology was the first to release this chip in Shanghai. This is the first domestically-made high-performance 4K-level GPU chip in the country. This chip not only supports 4K HD video codec, but can also provide users with more Good experience. More importantly, this chip can also support multiple processor instruction sets including ARM, X86 and even domestic Loongson. Judging from the publicity of this chip, this chip should be enough to meet the daily needs of study and life.

Large scale manufacturing of the domestic production line 28nm and 14nm has yet to be achieved, however.

I would argue that is the most important milestone that is awaited to be achieved next year...

Standing at position 4 out of 4 players is not usually considered standing at a leading position. It seems you think otherwise.

In fact, China remains the single largest net importer of integrated circuits (of any kind) on planet Earth as of 2020.

Apparently, you are either woefully misinformed or unable to understand the question.

Wikipedia or other such open source encyclopedia, public discussion forum, social media such as youtube, youku, weibo, twitter are never considered authentic references for good reasons.

FYI, China also remains by far the largest net importer of any types of machines and equipment used in the manufacture of of semiconductor boules or wafers, semiconductor devices, electronic integrated circuits or flat panel displays; machines and apparatus specified in note 9 C to chapter 84; parts and accessories, n.e.s..

That not only includes lithography tools but also materials and equipment used in every stage of the front end and backend processes involved in the fabrication of integrated circuits on silicon wafers, of course.

Moreover, the co-CEO of SMIC Mr Liang Mengsong states publicly that SMIC's 7nm process tech is at least 35% inferior to that of competitors or rivals.

I could continue, just that it's too wasteful. No point in spoonfeeding the audience here or anywhere.

Would you still say China will no longer play catch up in the semiconductor industry because it is supposedly a leading player?
There's citations provided within the links.

By your logic Congo or India are far more advanced than China in semiconductor, as both are much smaller net importers of semiconductor or semiconductor tools. That is your literal logic from your own words.

High net imports are meaningless without considering total sales volume, domestic capacity or end use. Wonder why you never mention fab capacity by region in terms of 200 mm equivalents.

And I like how you have no answer to YMTC teardown and test results. You say it's "unreliable" but it has first hand data which is more granular and relevant than aggregate statistics. It's also done by an actual subject matter expert.

35% inferior to alternative 7nm processes in Taiwan and South Korea is surprisingly impressive. I was thinking of 2022/3 at least when any Chinese foundry manages to do 7nm on any acceptable commercial scale.

Now that 35% is curiously specific like it is determined by production output or some chip equivalent of EROEI measure wrt fab materials, energy and costs or even just production rates.

Yangtze Memory breakthrough is nice progress.
