It is expected for AMEC and Naura to be strong in epitaxy tbh.
China has always been strong in chemistry (which is what epitaxy, etch and deposition is). Expect AMEC and Naura to start taking Lam and AMAT market share here too soon.
Lithography is the big one because it isn't chemistry like every other semiconductor process, it is optics and mechanics.
Of course you are correct, even thought China is the 3rd country in the world capable of making DUV lithography machines, the market is monopolized by ASML in the (FEOL) . I think SMEE is pretty strong in the area of lithography machines for ic packaging (BEOL), even before the sanctions. Hopefully after the sanctions it will also become strong in the (FEOL) area too.
Why is Intel investing in Europe and not the US, if the US is so concerned about semiconductor nationalism? It seems the US paranoia is only directed against Asian companies, even if they are from supposed allies like South Korea. What this really is is a form of White technological nationalism. But Japan, South Korea and Taiwan refused to acknowledge this because that would imply the unthinkable -- that their natural allies are the Chinese and not the Americans.
It's racism. Nothing more, nothing less.
Intel is investing bigly in the US with several fabs planned. I don't know where you got the info that they are not investing in their home country.
