There was a comment I saw on reddit on how the US should have approached the chip ban and its scary because it would have worked. Thank god for the idealogues like Pompeo who were in charge couldn't formulate such a long term policy.

@Topazchen bro what Trump and Navarro want is to end globalization (outsourcing) their theme is MAGA, Pompeo and org are Neocons who want to maintain the status quo. So the disconnect are there inside the Trump administration and is being continued by the Biden administration. The deep state working the China policy knows that they can't stop China and as a recourse stealing its allies tech and let them establish a FAB inside the US is their main objective. In that way their vulnerability will be address as the competition with China intensify.
China has absolutely no choice than to develop the entire value chain of semiconductor and IC chip manufacturing, including the chips and the equipment and their components domestically, so as to NEVER be vulnerable to embargos externally. Absolutely no outside country can be trusted, because they are all vulnerable to US suasion to cut off supplies against their best economic interests.
Trump has been by far the best driver of Chinese industrial policy with regards to the implementation of Made in China 2025. The ploy of flooding China with cheap less than latest generation tech equipment to be utilized by their manufacturing companies to produce goods when it is known that Chinese equipment manufacturers have reached a certain level of quality will not longer work.
Politicians and tech executives who make the utterances that China should stop supposedly wasting resources to develop its own sophisticated technologies in entirety will likely now be shot.

Cause by that time China may have a thousand nuclear warhead, an operating EUVL, an economy approaching the size of the US and the most important the driver of GLOBAL Growth.
