Even South Korea managed to build a De-Americanised production line for 7nm Chips recently.
It's a funny thing for a county that has tech sector completely based on imported brains to lecture other how to do it.China’s semiconductor quest is likely to fail, leaving rapprochement with US the only way out
While SMIC is considered China’s national chip champion today, it is entirely dependent on foreign technology. What chance is there of achieving self-sufficiency when starting from scratch and with no foreign technical help?
China’s biggest challenge won’t be money – it will be finding qualified people. Poaching a few hundred semiconductor engineers from Taiwan might be enough to ramp up a new chip fab in China, but that is far short of what will be required to completely rebuild a semiconductor ecosystem.
Finding “a handful of geniuses” – an approach China has used in past national programs – probably will not work either. A completely new mindset may be required to come up with an alternative to the existing silicon-based chipmaking process. Materials like graphene and gallium nitride are often cited as potential replacements for silicon.
Even funnier is that if the USA goes this far to try and stall just one company in the way they have done right now, one must wonder what China is going to do in response to this. China has many options available, so if the USA isn't careful, there beloved stock market is going to be in danger and almost everyone knows how much America loves there stock market. It's a funny thing for a county that has tech sector completely based on imported brains to lecture other how to do it.

So are we supposed to spam you into oblivion with all the articles that say America shot itself in the foot by starting a tech war it cannot win? LOLChina’s semiconductor quest is likely to fail, leaving rapprochement with US the only way out

All this is going to do it ensure that China is simply going to be use this situation to not only better themselves (technology and society wise) but also be kept alert so that when an opportunity comes along, they will make use of that to do some real payback and who knows, actually make it stick this time. Just like China's lack of overt reaction towards the USA being perceived as a weakness, this situation is also being used in a similar manner in that China is preparing for future while playing along, meaning that the USA is going to be in a lot of trouble in the near future since with each passing day that the USA is distracted in its bitch fight with China, is each day that the US loses in regards to handling all of its issues, ensuring that resulting burst of its bubble is going to be quick spectacular.Rapprochment isnt even the right word, more like the US expecting complete capitulation...
Same way Trump thought his charm offensive was gonna get Xi to override China's national interest or that kidnapping Huawei CFO daughter was going to force China to yield to the trade war...
Oh soon China is going to act and it is going to be quite painful for the USA. The US elections is going to be one for the history books. Everything is set up so that during that time, everything will explode, the racial divide, the pandemic numbers, the stock market, the unemployment numbers and heck even there breaking infrastructure. Everything is going to explode. Also note that it is going to take decades (if not more) for the US to be able to establish there own supply chains independent of China given that there infrastructure ( as evident in the collapse of big dam in Michigan recently) is going to be failing quite regularly. Face it, China at least works on there infrastructure while the USA doesn't work on it anywhere near as much.
Another reason why China should do reunification soon... US using TW for forced tech transfer while calling it "shared values" and rerouting the global tech supply chain by using the Chinese province pitted against the mainland and cutting China off... on the heels of global COVID recovery... making it easier for US to reshape the tech supply chain... China needs to do something fast, the red line got crossed
