Huawei says it will keep HiSilicon team and has no profit claims on that chip business
April 13, 2021
is a chip design division at Huawei, not a profitable company, and Huawei has no profit claims on it, Huawei's rotating chairman Xu Zhijun said at an analyst conference Monday, adding that it will keep the team as long as Huawei can afford it.
"This team can keep researching, developing, and preparing for the future," Xu said.
Huawei massively increased its inventory reserves in 2020 in response to US sanctions, leading to a reduction in cash flow.
As for how much inventory Huawei has left in reserve, Xu said they can still satisfy enterprise customers, but not forever.
"Therefore, Huawei will be more focused and focus on key customers, in order for Huawei to live a little longer," he said.
Xu said Huawei is a big customer in the semiconductor industry, and China is a huge chip market, and there are probably many companies here that are worried about the future like Huawei.
"Faced with such a large demand, we believe there will always be companies to invest and find ways to meet the needs of Huawei and other Chinese companies in the chip sector," Xu said.
The US restrictions on Huawei have undermined the system of trust in the global semiconductor chain, causing panic stockpiling by companies around the world and ultimately leading to global semiconductor supply constraints and shortages, he said.
Whether these restrictions will trigger a new global economic crisis in the future is also unknown, it's the fundamental answer in rebuilding global trust and restoring global industry chain cooperation, according to Xu.
@SleepyStudent can't blame you bro, Its the job of gov't not of private company. But I'm proud of HW, they are the trailblazers and the Vanguard of Chinese tech industry. No focus on equipment? Frustrating
They have enough resources that they can have their own parallel line of effort@SleepyStudent can't blame you bro, Its the job of gov't not of private company. But I'm proud of HW, they are the trailblazers and the Vanguard of Chinese tech industry.
Just finish watching CCTV documentary on Beidou. The development started in 1980's lead by Chen Fangyun But China does not have money and there is no funding. So it got nowhere until the Gulf war and China see how effective the GPS homing guided missile can be . Suddenly there is urgency in developing the GPS But need to develop the technology starting with 2 satellite constellation during 2000-2003. 3 satellite was launched and they experiment. The development was lead by Sun Jiadong the designer for Dongfanghung China's first satellite and the right handman of Chen Xuesen. Navigational satellite was based on having an accurate atomic clock China has to import those clock. It is very complicated piece of equipment and only 2 or 3 country can built them(sound familiar)
But the western power suddenly realized that China can built GPS system(sound familiar) and instituted embargo on atomic clock. with the hope of killing any Chinese effort to build GPS system.
Even worse 80% of the frequencies was monopolize by US and Russia and only 20% left But United Nation convene a conference in 2005 and decide to award the rest of the frequency on first come first serve basis. But the catch is the offer expired on 2007. And China have to have functioning GPS system to claim that frequency
So China has only 2 years to developed and send the first signal from space before 2007 an impossible task as Beidou II just start design phase.
But with herculean effort they manage to send Beidou II in space and receive the signal just 4 hour before the deadline lapses
So the moral of the story is nothing is impossible and with the support of the nation it can be achieved. The same with EUV and semi production line China has been there before and overcome the challenge. The list of western road block or tripping is endless and each one china beat them!
Not only of topic but inflammatory. Most are because they industrialised first. There are actually heaps of east asian scientific and mathematics talents from 1950s onwards. HEAPS. You just don't hear them unless you're in the science and tech field. And no not all inventors are westerners. Most were from the turn of the century when asia was a war torn mess that is barely if even indsutrialising. Before that, people were mostly on an equal footing but the steam engine changed history... well the enlightenment started it.
Caucasian brain is smaller in volume and average IQ less than east asian brain. Jewish brain however is the mightiest of the lot lol. East asians just have lower kurtosis whereas caucasians benefit from having a greater spread in IQ and their societies granting the top end to pull their near retarded masses, through evolution, asians developed more conforming attitudes and IQ.
Inventions are increasingly more contributed to by Asians. It's such a false stereotype now that westerners invented everything. It's only becoming more apparent the more asian economies and nations develop. I mean this is too obvious. Undeveloped nations almost contribute nothing meanwhile developing and developed ones do. China is responsible for nearly half the cited scientific papers. It's a good snapshot of the overall field. I mean these days inventing a new way to do a display screen counts as an invention right? Well all of display tech after CRT has been asian. In fact many times the inventions and the inventing groups in the US are founded, owned, operated, and staffed by a great deal of asians (and non-caucasians of all kinds). So yeah very dated and false belief.
But this is probably not worth discussing because it's dangerously off topic.
There's a difference between building a state of the art, advanced technology product and building a state of the art, advanced technology product which is competitive on every aspect (cost, reliability, productivity volume, maintenance needs) right out of the gate.Just finish watching CCTV documentary on Beidou. China doesnt even need airplanes when push comes to shove... most airplanes have service life of 30 years or moreThere's a difference between building a state of the art, advanced technology product and building a state of the art, advanced technology product which is competitive on every aspect (cost, reliability, productivity volume, maintenance needs) right out of the gate.
China can easily do the former, and in the case of semiconductor equipment, relentlessly subsidize suppliers and customers until the semiconductor equipment improves. However, doing that in the case of other technologies, say, civilian turbofans (say starting an one year flight test program for the CJ-1000 today and then putting it onto C919s in 2022-23), is not advisable.
