Any updates you've heard on Huawei's fab plans or SMEE"s 28 nm DUV lithograph?
Huawei's FAB plans are going according to schedule.
I believe they have started work on it in Shanghai and they plan to be producing 45nm Chips followed by 28nm Chips by the end of the year when they get hold of the SMEE 28nm DUVL.
The Prototype of the 28nm DUVL has been assembled and they will be sent to SMIC, HUAWEI/ICRD and another Government Run Verification Line for testing and verification.
After that it will be used for Chip production.
Note that the SMEE 65nm Dry DUVL is already in mass production and seems to be a sucessful product.
I would expect the 28nm DUVL to perform just as well.

According to an Insider there has recently been a Breakthrough in the development of EUVL.
The Chinese EUVL 6 Mirror Lithography Projection Optical System has been sucessfully Developed and sucessfully Verified.
This means that the Optics of the Chinese EUVL (which is technically challenging) has been sucessfully developed and produced.
China is now one step closer to its goal of being the 2nd Producer of EUVL.
The only missing Link now in the EUVL is the Light Source.
Changchun Institute and Shanghai Institute are still working on the Light Sources.
Hopefully there will be some news soon from the CAS.

It also now known that TSMC's first generation 7nm Chip made entirely with the DUVL in 2018, used the ASML NXT1980i Lithograph.
The NXT1980i is currently used by SMIC in its 14nm FAB.
This means that it is possible for SMIC to produce 7nm Chips with its 1980i DUVL in the future if it so wishes.
SMIC already has plans to produce its N+1 Chips (8nm) in April using the 1980i.

@foofy @Oldschool never heard of this new Chinese GPU player , is it legit, it had high ambition with a 7nm Chip hopefully SMIC get its act together to produce its N+2 or else TSMC will FAB for them again. :(

Chinese GPU Designer MetaX Wraps Up Early Stage Fundraiser, Led by LCP, Matrix Partners

Chinese GPU Designer MetaX Wraps Up Early Stage Fundraiser, Led by LCP, Matrix Partners
(Yicai Global) March 9 -- MetaX Integrated Circuits, a Chinese graphics processing unit design startup, has secured hundreds of millions of yuan in its pre-Series A+ round of funding, less than a month after its pre-A round.
The latest funding was jointly led by Lightspeed China Partners and Matrix Partners China, and participated by CTC Capital, Sequoia Capital, and ZhenFund, the Shanghai-based company said in a statement yesterday. It also garnered hundreds of millions of yuan in its pre-A round.
The startup, which was founded at Lingang Special Area of the China Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone last September, is eyeing the field of high-performance GPU processors, a sector dominated by global giants such as Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices.
China's GPU market is expected to reach about CNY27 billion (USD4.1 billion) in scale by 2025, according to IDC. GPU chips account for about half of GPU servers' costs.

Chinese companies' rising demand for supercomputing in their research and development will drive a continuously growing demand for high-performance GPUs, and MetaX is one of the few firms in the field with its own intellectual property, said Zhu Jia, associate partner at Lightspeed China Partners.
Zhu added that the venture capital firm is optimistic that MetaX will be able to fill the domestic technological gap in the field of high-performance computing in the future.
MetaX focuses on developing general-purpose GPUs. The products are mainly used in traditional GPUs and mobile applications, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and data centers, according to the firm's website.
Members of MetaX's technical team have more than 15 years of experience in high-performance GPU design on average, ranging from 40 nanometers to 7 nm. Three core founders have worked together for more than 10 years with their respective backgrounds in hardware, software, and architecture.

Yikes! What a disastrous decision by the Trump administration to restrict exports of advanced semiconductor equipment to China.

If what the above poster is true and everything goes according to schedule, that decision will probably be the US biggest blunder after the middle east wars. I really cant understand why they tried to do this, it seems to me that they just drunk too much of their own think tank kool-aid that China is only capable of copying, stealing, not-innovating culture (racism) etc.

more likely rumors, high performance GPU is not something that can just design/produce that quickly, it takes years and tens billions of investment, and team made of thousands expert, and Nvidia/AMD had the advantage of not been on embargo list. beside we are talking about startup from last year, not a company with good track record like huawei/SMIC etc. more likely these startup are taking advantage of government incentive, most will fail, but maybe 1 or 2 will break the bottleneck.

I dont think its rumours, Yicai Global is a trustworthy source so i would take seriously their articles. On the other hand, the keywords on the article posted in my opinion were:

"Chinese graphics processing unit design startup" - likely a new or small scale.company

"is eyeing the field of high-performance GPU processors" - likely for medium-term future

So i would say that we should expect results by 2024 as it seems they have previous experience

for high performance one unlikely, if they come up some decent low-mid range GPU for general purpose desktop, thats already an achievement.
