Isn't publishing these patents dangerous since one corporation could read the abstract and replicate its work (such as copying or knowing your secrets). Same thing goes for space, weapon, material science patents/abstract reports.
I think it's a good promotion material, now other scientists and engineers know that company x is doing legit cool things. That is why a lot of big tech companies do open source work it's a good way to recruit people.

My guess is the real secret sauce is in house, patents a just lawyer jargon description of the invention for these companies to protect themselves from local companies trying to enter the space and foreign companies who are getting a lot EUV patents even if they wouldn't probably be allowed to sell anything related to EUV lithography in China.
Eh patents aren’t just lawyer jargon tbf. You can glean quite a lot about the engineering behind a design through the patent language. But I think the broader point about patents not being blueprints with meaningful specificity is correct and an important distinction. You can still reverse engineer from a patent of course but the real meat of the engineering is not in the general approach or technique as laid out in a patent but in the precisely measured and calibrated parameters in how something is put together, and if you don’t understand the physical principles behind the patent you will get that wrong. Either way nothing that goes into a patent is magic sauce. The whole reason patent protection exists as a concept is precisely because it’s recognized that these ideas aren’t special and hard to reproduce, which is why there’s a desire to protect someone’s ability to claim that they got to it first as an incentive for invention (I think patents as they’re commonly implemented today are actually bad for innovation and instead of protecting general techniques IP law should focus on protecting specific product design, aka whole assembly implementations but that’s a separate discussion).

“We cannot let China get these chips. Period,” she said at the Reagan National Defense Forum in Simi Valley, California, on Saturday. “We’re going to deny them our most cutting-edge technology.”
Raimondo called out Nvidia Corp., which designed chips specifically for the Chinese market after the US imposed its initial round of curbs in October 2022.

“If you redesign a chip around a particular cut line that enables them to do AI, I’m going to control it the very next day,” Raimondo said.

I saw the interview, quite cringey to say the least. First she says that the US is at the forefront of semiconductor innovation, ok, a few minutes later she says that national security is worth more than the revenue of US companies AND a few minutes later she says that US companies need revenue to continue innovating. She is a walking contradiction.

Obviously that department is full of think tankers who have no f*cking idea what they are doing and dealing with an enemy is one thing but dealing with a group of clowns who don't know what they are doing is much worse because they can unintentionally do more damage. And the worst thing is that the situation could get even worse if the GOP takes power, they want to ban even mature process tools and even more chips.

It is worth repeating that the Chinese must consider everything that comes from the United States as prohibited but still available. De-Americanization and localization is the only way out, this should not be a Chinese government thing but Chinese companies themselves need to recognize this if the want they want to survive, even the most liberal Chinese must understand that the only way the US is going to reverse its policies is if the losses are too high to bear or Chinese advancements made it clear the any containment is futile.

This is the lady who said "there is no evidence that China can produce 7-nm chips 'at scale'" and then few weeks later, said China's breakthrough was "incredibly disturbing" and she was "upset, angry" at the revelations.

Classic politician grandstanding with no accountability. It's not like any dinosaurs in the audience would care to follow-up.

Another boost for Omnivision coming next year as more AR/VR/MR glasses to be launched and expected to use their integrated CIS chips

which ironically does have usage in drones also. So yeah, they things that actually have military usage are not the chips that America has lead on or are being sanctioned.

I do find it interesting here that CXMT doesn't even appear to have any significant market share in TrendForce's Q3 chart for DRAMs. Even if all the remaining share at CXMT, that's still just 1% of total market

I think getting into Transsion and Redmi supply chain really matters since they are just getting into the more lucrative mobile DRAM market

Zero accountability.

From the interview:

Gina: If you aren't selling into China a decade from now, it wasn't because our export controls, it was because China is designing you out.
