Precision engineering takes time and SMEE cannot possibly scale up fast enough to supply immediate demand. It will be many years before ASML machines are completely replaced, that's just the reality. You can't remake an entire industry overnight.

The best thing to do is wait and see.
Ever since the first round of sanctions that targeted EUV in 2018, and the slow but ever increasingly ramp up over the years, it should have been obvious years ago that lithography was China's achilles heel and that America could cut off DUVi if they really pushed for it. They should have massively increased R&D and ramped up production 5 years ago if they had any foresight at all.

And the same can be said about the US, IF they implement a full ban 5 years ago then the Chinese will be crippled by at least 5 years. I have to agree with Dylan Patel assessment, the puzzle approach sanction had given the Chinese time to produce an import substitute with no major delay, it had strengthen the Chinese semiconductor rather than weakened it. This additional restriction will have the same result as the ship had already sailed a long time ago.

These lasers are not for scanners not even steppers. Laser frequency is an order too low.

They actually sell quite a bit. did a look into them, but Chinese automaker still buys way too much from Infineon, ST and other Western firms.

You still persist on believing ASML will make an alternative supply of tools to the ones with US components despite all proof being in the contrary. And you still don't understand that the Netherlands is part of the Wassenaar Arrangement. Which means these US laws will be codified into Dutch law sooner or later.
He has good grounds for believing this. Look into what happened in the space industry - European vendors developed an entire family of ITAR-free products (including complete satellites) to serve the Chinese markets, after the Cox report in the US led to a complete ban on any sort of US commercial space technology being sold to China.

If they built ITAR-free satellites for the Chinese market, I think they can / will build de-Americanized EUVs for the Chinese market.
