How well can China handle the chemical side of semiconductor production. Because a ban on these chemicals are coming. Don't know when this will happen but its coming.

I think China would be fine in general, in regard to chemical . a bit of pain, but not too much

I believe it would be a good thing if the ban would happen .. to force China to build chain of supply within China

However, I don't think it will happen, the only country can do the damage to China is Japan, and I highly doubt Japan would dare. In the past Japan had done it to South Korea .. but China is a totally different beast

Found it on twitter so I can't vouch if the data is correct

Percentage of revenue that Western semiconductor companies get from China
View attachment 111907

Regarding ST, this info does not seem correct.

ST does not officially disclose revenues by countries, but looking at various sources, including here

It seems ST's revenue is approximately uniformly attributable to three locations, Asia Pacific, the Americas and the EMEA region. This is true for every year from 2016 to 2022. In 2022, the Americas as origin contributed to 41 percent of revenues while Asia Pacific (China) has 30% in 2022 already lower than 34% of 2021

Long term trend seems ST revenues's share if growing in US, stable in Europe (already saturated all market possibilities since ages), and dropping in China where in 2022 was 30%, not 68%

Tech war: China’s top memory chip maker YMTC making progress in producing advanced 3D NAND products with locally sourced equipment: sources

"YMTC has doubled down on efforts to work with Chinese suppliers to help manufacture its Xtacking 3.0 architecture-based chips, and that progress has been made in a top secret project code-named Wudangshan, <...> One source said the project intended to use Chinese equipment only and that YMTC has placed big orders with domestic equipment suppliers, including Beijing-based Naura Technology Group"

SCMP is not the most reliable source, but if true is quite ambitious. Xtacking 3.0 is the latest evolution of YMTC technology, for >128 layers 3D NAND. If NAURA etchers are able to replace LAM on this state-of-the-art technology, well, this is quite impressive.

I think they have taken that figure from revenue based on Shipment location. According to ST website it was 63% from Asia Pacific on FY2022. So even if their direct sales to AP is only 30% their exposure to China is likely higher.

Shengmei Shanghai's revenue in the first quarter increased by 74.09% year-on-year, and Shengmei Korea will build a semiconductor equipment R&D and manufacturing center.

According to news from Jiwei.com, on April 27, Shengmei Shanghai released its first quarterly report, achieving revenue of 616 million yuan, an increase of 74.09% compared with the same period last year; net profit attributable to the parent was 131 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2937.19%; 109 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 360.26%.
Shengmei Shanghai pointed out in the first quarter report that the main reason for the increase in revenue is to benefit from the increasing demand for equipment in the domestic semiconductor downstream industry and the competitive advantages of the company's products. New customer expansion, new market development have achieved remarkable results, and new products have won customers. It is recognized that the order volume continues to grow, and the company's revenue maintains a high growth rate. The growth of near profit attributable to the parent company and non-net profit after deduction benefited from the growth of revenue and gross profit margin.
According to Shengmei official news, it plans to invest 245 million yuan to build a new Shengmei Korea semiconductor equipment R&D and manufacturing center, of which, the construction investment is 190 million yuan, and the research and development investment is 55 million yuan.

Shanghai Industrial Technology Research Institute completed the MEMS R&D pilot line and other functional platform construction requirements on time

Shanghai Industrial Research Institute of Micro-Technology (hereinafter referred to as "Shanghai Industrial Technology Research Institute") will report at the Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology (Jiading Park) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The hall was successfully held. Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, Jiading District Science and Technology Commission, Shanghai Changsan Hospital, expert group, Shanghai Science and Technology Consulting Company, and Shanghai Linfang Accounting Firm attended the meeting. The chairman of Shanghai Industrial Technology Research Institute and relevant leaders and departments participated in the report of this project evaluation meeting. The meeting was organized and presided over by Shanghai Science and Technology Consulting Company entrusted by Shanghai Changsan Court.

Dr. Xie Xiaoming, chairman of Shanghai Industrial Technology Research Institute, delivered a welcome speech, and pointed out that Shanghai Industrial Technology Research Institute learned from the innovative models and successful experiences of internationally renowned R&D institutions through research, and focused on the core technology of Beyond Moore chip manufacturing around the strategy of Shanghai integrated circuit with two wings. With the eight-inch R&D pilot line as the core, three platforms of process R&D, design services and engineering testing have been preliminarily established, which have played a very good supporting role in the domestic "Beyond Moore" field of core technology R&D, product R&D and industrial chain innovation. Finally, Dr. Xie Xiaoming expressed his gratitude to the Shanghai Municipal Government, the Jiading District Government, the Changsan Hospital and relevant committees and industry experts who have always supported the platform construction.
