Quite interesting. Looks like a pretty good choice here for YMTC. There must be a lot of people already in Dalian capable of filling the positions. YMTC also would not need to negotiate for land or anything With Dalian gov't. I'm sure Dalian gov't would gladly see YMTC filling in here. Good opportunity. Just need domestic SMEs to be able to supply the equipments to ramp up production.

There is enough space at their site in Wuhan to build three fabs. What YMTC needs is tools, not floor space. This is basically a large clean room. It might be repurposable, but good luck finding a taker, as can be seen from the HSMC building. I am not sure there will be any workers either. Since they never started operating the fab in the first place.

Well, the first fab is at least fully tooled and staffed. I would imagine they are moving in equipments and trialing second fab right now. Give them a couple of years, they might be ramped up to 50% capacity at second fab. Given the level of expansion planning from SMIC, I would imagine YMTC has to be looking beyond just its Wuhan fabs

Unigroup originally had plans for large memory fabs in 2 other cities. After all, there is only so many qualified people in an area and so much local subsidies you can get. Dalian is a huge city with a lot of talent. I'm sure local gov't there will be desperate to have a company actually producing stuff there rather than just leaving an empty building. I'm sure they can get it very cheaply and local govt willing to throw in money to buy equipments for them.

With Micron possibly banned and Koreans unable to expand in China, this is great time for YMTC to be making large expansion plans

Recently, DATE 2023 (European Conference on Design Automation and Testing), a well-known conference in the EDA field, was held in Antwerp, Belgium. Research results and conducted in-depth exchanges. In this conference, Peking University won the Best Paper Award for its achievement on the layout automatic routing of analog integrated circuits .
Compared with digital integrated circuits, the automation degree of analog integrated circuit design is lower, especially the layout has long relied on manual drawing. Among them, wiring needs to complete the interconnection between pins, which is an extremely cumbersome step in layout design, and the wiring result has a great impact on the post-simulation performance of the analog circuit. Analog circuit layout not only needs to consider complex geometric constraints, such as satisfying various design rules, reducing winding bending, etc., but also needs to consider constraints related to electrical performance, such as electromigration, voltage drop, and symmetry. How to efficiently explore wiring schemes and reduce manual intervention under various complex constraints is an urgent problem to be solved in the automatic wiring of analog circuits.
The team of researcher Lin Yibo and Professor Wang Runsheng from the Department of Design Automation and Computing Systems/Integrated Circuit Advanced Innovation Center of the School of Integrated Circuits, together with teachers and students from the Department of Integrated Circuit Design, proposed a multi-constraint collaborative analog circuit layout automatic wiring framework, and realized The tool prototype SAGERoute can simultaneously consider complex geometric and electrical constraints, automatically solve the interconnection line width that meets the constraints, plan the wiring topology and complete the connection. The wiring tool has been verified on multiple real tape-out cases, including manually drawn and laid out FIA and SAR-ADC circuits, covering three process nodes of 65nm, 40nm and 28nm, and can complete the wiring within tens of seconds. And achieve the post-simulation performance close to the manual wiring of design experts.
This work was published under the title "SAGERoute: Synergistic Analog Routing Considering Geometric and Electrical Constraints with Manual Design Compatibility", doctoral students Zhang Haoyi and Gao Xiaohan are the co-first authors.​
