This is just what US will impose on China. What the Dutch imposes will look different. After months of threats and persuasion, it sounds like the Dutch thus far are just agreeing to 2000i and above. Now, America is about to move the goal post again.

On the other hand, this should be a lesson for any fabs in China that recently awarded bids to American tool makers. There is no end to how far natsec hawks might go with this. You think 65nm is mature node and safe? Wait another year. You just bought your Lam equipment because it has better performance and they took you to dinner for a month straight and promised you that American gov't won't ever raise the threshold to stuff that was cutting edge 20 years ago.

And then a year later, you find out that the threshold has now been raised to 65nm and your "mature" process is considered to help the Chinese military. And now you have an equipment that Lam will never be able to service again. And you wish you just put up with the annoyance of working through problems and qualifying AMEC. And you have nobody to blame except yourself.

Not the ASML stuff. this article talks of new bans on US equipment.

This article say currently about 17 US equipment is banned and it is going to be doubled.

Export restrictions announced by the Dutch government last week will bar shipments of ASML's Twinscan NXT:2000i, NXT:2050i and NXT:2100i scanners, the company's most sophisticated deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography tools, Bloomberg reports. By contrast, about 17 chipmaking tools produced by U.S.-based manufacturers require an export license from the U.S. Department of Commerce, according to Bloomberg. With new restrictions, that number will double, the report claims, which will naturally hurt businesses like Applied Materials, KLA, and Lam Research.

Samsung announced to spend 230 Billion USD in semiconductor manufacturing industry by 2042. if we calculate, then average 11.5 Billion USD per year. this is what you called racing ahead. just peanuts what Chinese firms are spending right now.

Firstly,How much SMIC spend per year?Anywhere near Samsung's level?

Secondly,Samsung spend money on advanced chips while Chinese fabs spend money on expand mature chips production,how is this not "racing ahead"?
