Apparently, the MCUs here will be installed on an initial batch of 500k refrigerators by Meiling (which is a subsidiary?). Does anyone know who is producing their chips?
Why do we need 40 nm chips for refrigerator? That's overkill IMO, you only need something that can handle PID control and simple graphics display even for the highest end fridges.

Xingfu Electronics plans to build a 40,000-ton/year ultra-high-purity electronic chemical project and an electronic chemical R&D center project

Hubei Xingfa Chemical Group Co., Ltd. announced that it plans to invest 880.7028 million yuan in the construction of the Shanghai Xingfu Electronic Chemicals Zone Project, including "40,000 tons/year ultra-high-purity electronic chemicals project" and " Electronic Chemicals R&D Center Project".

Among them, the 40,000-ton/year ultra-high-purity electronic chemicals project invested 570.9905 million yuan, and will build 30,000 tons/year electronic-grade sulfuric acid plant and supporting projects, 10,000-ton/year electronic-grade functional chemical project to expand the production scale of electronic-grade sulfuric acid and functional chemicals to meet the needs of end customers in the Yangtze River Delta region; the investment in the electronic chemical R&D center project is 309.7123 million yuan, and will build a R&D center that meets the R&D needs of electronic-grade functional chemicals and cutting-edge special gases. Laboratories, R&D workshops, etc., and the purchase of industry-leading experimental equipment will significantly enhance the company's research and development capabilities for new microelectronic materials.
Wet electronic chemicals are mainly used in the three major fields of semiconductor integrated circuits, flat panel displays and solar cells. In recent years, under the background of the expansion of global wafer production capacity and the rapid development of OLED and photovoltaic industries, the three major industries of semiconductor integrated circuits, flat panel displays and solar cells have ushered in greater development space, driving the continuous growth of market demand for wet electronic chemicals .

Appliance these days are starting to adopt IoT. That means even cheap coffee maker has LCD and SoC much less refrigerator. I'm pretty sure you have heard Skyrim on Smart Refrigerator meme before.

Perfect timing since we're talking about consumer products like appliances, China had come a long way, within 6 years and see the progress being done. ;)

What amazing is that the Chinese are covering all bases from mature tech to leading edge, that's what self sufficiency is all about not selective like the American like to do....lol from my mentor @Oldschool.

China 's self sufficiency of appliance IC for aircon, dryer, refrigerator rose from 2%in 2016 to 22% in 2022. Still can cover alot of ground even in such mature tech.

ACM Shanghai's first front-end ArF process glue coating and developing equipment, Ultra LITH, was launched smoothly

this is no less important than photolithography itself. the coater/developer market is currently dominated by TEL. the big parameter here is the dimensional stability of the resist film, with very high requirements for front end resists. if ACM can succeed against the big boys here, I think they might become one of the big conglomerates next to NAURA. They have a good portfolio in wet chemistry once they get electrodeposition.
