, Shanghai Micro Electronic Equipment (SMEE) is reportedly on track to deliver its second-gen deep ultraviolet (DUV) lithography scanner by the fourth quarter of 2021.

The tool can produce chips using 28 nm process technologies and relies on components produced in China and Japan, the report said.

And, more importantly, it does not rely on devices made in the US, a major factor in the ongoing Sino-US trade war.

That's an encouraging news you have right there.
I would imagine that we are going to need to add at least couple more years on top of the equipment delivery date before we can see some sort of volume production. But this is a good news nonetheless. However I would still prefer a 100% Chinese made in the future as i cannot say with absolute confidence about Japan commitment to China should the US started to use their long arm jurisdiction.

The commitment is likely nil if the ban on sales of Japanese composites to the Russian MC-21 airliner is any indication.

Hi gelgoog,

The article is correct regarding the DUVL , but From what I know the completion of the domestic 28nm line is finish, the SMEE 28nm DUVL will be online next year probably by SMIC in Beijing.

Hi Ndla2,

Welcome, I'm the same as you, and lucky enough to find in this forum knowledgeable members who is willing and had the patience to partake in discussing China IC. Please read the previous post on both thread and see our discussion come to fruition. It's very exciting especially the coming year ahead.

Can SMEE 28nm DUVL produce 14nm chips or even lower?
Hi bro,

From our previous discussion yes with multiple patterning up to 7nm or maybe 5nm as advertise by the latest NIKON DUVL which is comparable with SMEE 28nm DUVL. the problem it will take time to set up the complete domestic line, 14nm maybe at the earliest late 2021 , 7nm late 2022 or 2023.:(

This article is Fake news.
The SMEE 28nm DUVL Machine is 100% Made In China.
All the main components are made by local companies.
The system integrator SMEE is under sanction so chances of getting Japanese parts are zero.
SMEE only developed its 90nm DUVL in 2016 because it had to ensure every part of the Machine was 100% locally made.
