Yep, ASML may say all these nice rosy words but i don't see no ASML produced machinery on its way to China-nor do i see this happening anytime soon. Maybe the Dutch are so committed to white anglo supremacy they're stupid enough to allow ASML to die and in so doing, create a Chinese competitor that will cement Chinese leadership in all sectors of the semiconductor supply chain.

ASML may say one thing. Unless and until the license is granted and the mask aligner is in Chinese hands and working, I wouldn't count it as certain.
Hi gadgetcool5,

As long as we are able to provide the technology and equipment, we will fully support it.
In fact, in the second and third quarters of 2020, the company shipped more than 20 percent of its total number of mask aligners to China.

You maybe right, but a customer need a guarantee of support before buying an expensive machine and this time SMIC and other's may demand a local production line in China if there is a bulk buying. We are talking about DUVL mask aligner here not the EUVL.

Huawei tops China's smartphone market in Q3 shipments, Apple fifth-cnTechPost

Huawei ranked No. 1 in China's smartphone market with 35.1 million units shipped in the third quarter and a market share of 41.4 percent, more than double that of second-place Vivo, data released today by IDC showed.
Vivo shipped 15 million units in the third quarter, with a market share of 17.8 percent.

OPPO ranked third, with 14.1 million units shipped in the third quarter and a 16.6 percent market share.
Xiaomi was fourth, with 11 million units shipped in the quarter and a 13 percent market share.
Xiaomi was the only brand among the Top 5 manufacturers to grow, up 13.4 percent year-over-year.

Apple delayed the release of the iPhone 12, resulting in lower shipments compared to the same period last year, with 7 million units shipped in the quarter and an 8.3 percent share.

China shipped 84.8 million smartphones in the third quarter, down 14.3 percent year-on-year. The main reasons for the drop in shipments included weak market demand, supply constraints by Huawei, and the launch of new flagship phones by Huawei and Apple.
IDC said that although the further escalation of US sanctions in August ultimately hampered Huawei's momentum, in the domestic market, it did not affect the enthusiasm supporting Huawei's share to remain above 40 percent.

1. China has nothing lose here to make inquires.

2. ASML has clearly indicated they are open for business, and in particular Chinese business. If the IC industry production of chip is a car, then ASML sells the engine. But here they are not even talking about selling the engine, but a part like some gasket.

If some government somewhere restricts that too, well then, ASML since they want to be an integral part of China 2025, they will ship unassembled parts of that gasket to China, where in China it will be reassembled. They are manufacturers, they can do something like that, especially since ASML been working with the Chinese inside China for over a decade.

This tech war may have just seen the start of the beginning to the end, with total Chinese victory, and heavy American losses.

:)

Aren't we suppose to be happy with this news!

Happy! Happy!

Just trying to improve your day brother.

Yup , ASML is desperate for a deal, my question is does China (SMEE) had an equivalent machine, after reading the article, both this machine and latest 3D technique is enough to produced 7nm, 5nm and even 3nm using existing equipment, a major breakthrough if does happen and doesn't necessitate an expensive EUVL. So this ASML product is solely for China market?
...

Not yet. SMEE has a prototype ArF DUV 28nm immersion lithography tool which they will start delivering to customers next year. But to produce chips at lower resolution it will take them another year or two. Probably to produce something similar to this mask stepper.
To produce chips at 5nm and below AFAIK you need to use EUV. As the process node decreases the number of steps you need to use with multiple-patterning increases exponentially and it is not cost effective at 5nm.
In fact TSMC even uses EUV in their 7nm processes in some steps.

I think 7nm is the practical limit with ArF DUV like what SMEE has right now. 5nm will require EUV light source and equipment.
With regards to ASML exporting EUV tools to the PRC, it won't happen until China can do their own EUV tools I think.
