Is this Steve Chen (Taiwan) the same one who cofounded YouTube ?
No. No.

Chinese has less common surnames than western names. And there’re less common western first names than Chinese. So when Chinese have a western first name it creates problems…Steven is a common English first name and Chen is a common Chinese surname.

He’s name is Steven Chen (陳正坤)

This is an old profile when he’s still with micron:

@FriedButter,
I should clarify, in my previous response to you, I was talking about buying A-shares. These are harder for foreigners to buy. It’s a lot more hassle to buy these unless you are Chinese.

But SMIC also have a H-share listed in Hong Kong. All investors should be able to buy SMIC H-shares.

Are you having trouble buying A-shares or H-shares?

Nope. Just wondering which shares you bought.

Wow, impressive. The Chinese weapons are definitely more advanced.

if this is true and J20 is outfitted with 28nm technology and F22 is outfitted with 0.13um from dawn of 21st century, then how can the American compete? I thought F22 is America’s best fighter jet?

im gonna have to find time to read up on other threads on this forum on J20 and other Chinese military advancements.

thanks for sharing this info
Radars aren't the only component of an aircraft. F22 has older tech because it IS an older aircraft but as far as I know the main reason why it is considered to be the best fighter is its flight characteristics and maneuvaribility. J20 needs WS-15 to unlock its full potential.

ACM Research could be delisted from the NASDAQ due to the new HFCAA legislation in the US. ACM Research has not allowed the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) to review their detailed financial audits for three years since 2021. But that does not mean ACM Research is sanctioned.

Honestly speaking for a Chinese semiconductor equipment company to be listed in US makes really no sense!

Chinese firms want to reach technology independence but then bound themselves to financial dependence in US. A chinese semi equip. company should not go to NASDAQ. This yields too much uncertainty to shareholders and to the company stability itself.

But I understand the case of ACM Research is special because it was founded in 1998 in Silicon Valley and is an American company (but with Chinese owner). Indeed I don't understand how ACM Research has not allowed the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) to review their detailed financial audits, considering that formally is an American company? Is this info public?

BOE, Tianma, TCL see strong profits in 2021

China-based display panel makers BOE Technology and Tianma Microelectronics as well as TV vendor TCL enjoyed handsome profits for 2021, according to Chinese media reports.

BOE posted consolidated revenues of CNY219.442 billion (US$34.57 billion) and net profit of CNY25.826 billion for 2021, increasing 61.89% and 412.86% respectively on year. The profit was a company record.

Tianma's 2021 consolidated revenues reached CNY31.829 billion, up 8.88% on year, with net profit of CNY1.542 billion, rising 4.61%.

TCL recorded consolidated revenues of CNY163.53 billion in 2021, hiking 112.8% on year, and net profit reahced CNY10.06 billion, a record high with on-year growth of 129.3%.

Tianma's existing panel lines and those under construction include 2G to 6G a-Si, TN, STN and LTPS LCD lines, and 5.5G and 6G AMOLED lines.

TCL's subsidiary China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT) is a maker of display panels. CSOT will invest CNT15 billion to expand production capacity at its 6G LTPS LCD fab, with the expansion having already started in January 2022 and to be completed in June 2023. The additional production capacity will focus on small- to medium-size LCD panels for high-end notebooks, automotive displays and VR/AR devices.

Chinese carmakers developing auto chips

Chinese carmakers have begun deploying resources in semiconductor development, as chip shortage continues to haunt the automotive industry.

Chinese carmakers still rely heavily on imports of car chips, but they are now moving to build their own local semiconductor supply chain.

Leap Motor and Dahua Technology have partnered up since 2018 to create AI autonomous driving chips for Leap's electric vehicles. As of February 2022, Leap has reported 11 consecutive months of over-200% year-on-year growth in car deliveries. For February, car deliveries increased by 447% on-year.

BYD has successfully expanded its expertise from carmaking to manufacturing of batteries, motors and control units - the three vital parts of an electric vehicle (EV). BYD Semiconductor, its spinoff unit, has been a supplier of XPeng and Yutong Bus.

NIO and XPeng have also aimed at semiconductor development.

Disrupted by the shortage of semiconductors, global car production has dropped sharply this year, according to AutoForecast Solutions.

However, the shortage of car chips is at present more pressing than localizing IC supply chain and improving self-sufficiency, said Wang Fengying, vice cairman at Great Wall Motors.

YMTC has managed to put 128 layer NAND into production. But financial trouble at Tsinghua Unigroup mean they won't do the originally planned fab expansion.

Not true. YMTC Fab2 expansion is still underway. There’s no impact from the Tsinghua Unigroup situation.
2 questions for hpvc as I am impressed by your knowledge.

Can chinese companies like AMEC, Naura or Piotech fully replace American companies in etching and deposition. If not where are the gaps?

Do you think there is any chance to see a Huawei phone with a new Kirin soc inside or do we have to say RIP to Hisilicon?
