That is a purely marketing article by canon since they have lost to the competition so bad. What makes you think that the industry will change the entire patterning process . Tsmc likes asml . They have a very bad relationship with the Japanese vendors.
Who knows? Don't take anything for granted, imagine they decide to abandon the idea because optical lithography is more "practical" and imagine in the near future the problems with NIL are solved. by the time they want to recover the market, it's over they can no longer compete. It is the same as SSMB EUV, we don't know how practical it is to implement it, but if they manage to implement it, it will change the industry forever and they will have the throne in that area.
I mean there is a reason why NIL tools alongside EUV are export controlled in the Wassenaar agreement and Arfi tools not.

@Hyper bro I'm no expert BUT from what I read the US form a consortium to take on the Japanese Domination, it's a US stated policy and is doing the same with China with the Chip ACT. What is different that the American and the West haven't realized is China is the Market. You can hindered it a little bit BUT it makes them more stronger....lol

If there was a US consortium then why is a Dutch company leading the market . The reason is plain and simple , no one in the industry wants to deal with Nikon and canon . They are run very badly.
Let me tell you a story. Back when I was an undergrad , my friends and I along with our professor were discussing about various instruments. We asked him about the various companies and their costs ( every student has a brainfart to setup a home lab ) . He told us about the types of microscope and told us about Zeiss and Nikon and olympus . He told that when he approached Nikon . Their sales department went on and on about their wonderful cameras, and their lenses. Completely understand to the instrument he wanted to purchase. He said ' fuck you'
and ended up purchasing from Motic and Leica.
When Nikon and Canon do an assembly of their on the fab floor they hide their machines behind the curtain and don't let anyone near them . They order their workers like slaves . Who will want to work for such paranoid companies? At least asml respects their customers and listens to their concern.

LONDON — British chip designer Arm, often called the crown jewel of the U.K. tech industry, is set to shun its home market and list in New York, dealing a major blow to the British government and the London Stock Exchange in the process.

The firm will likely be publicly listed on the tech-focused

“The U.S. ... that’s the market that we are looking at when it comes to listing Arm, and most likely Nasdaq,” Son said in a press briefing Tuesday. “But wherever it is, the U.S. is the market that we’re looking at for the listing of Arm.”

Europe is terrified of semiconductor irrelevance. Now its tech champion is calling for a massive new alliance

“If no action is taken, the European semiconductor manufacturing capacity will fall below 4%, making it virtually irrelevant on a global scale"

Kinda cute how they assume that Europe is relevant today. Even their ASML depends on the US for critical inputs

We've come a long way in a short four years since Trump started the West down with a trade war with China from thinking if they deny technology to China, China will simply surrender because they didn't think Chinese had the intellectual capability to do these things themselves. Now the Western world is in panic. And they still don't see their racism as a national security threat because it led them down the wrong path and it's going to cost them... severely. We're talking the modern version of the fall of the Roman Empire.

The fastest growing among the top four in the world! SMIC's 2021 revenue exceeds $5.4 billion

SMIC, a leading wafer foundry in mainland China, released its fourth quarter financial report for 2021. A number of operating indicators once again reached record highs, with a single-quarter revenue of US$1.5801 billion and a gross profit of US$552.8 million, a year-on-year increase of 212.7%, and gross profit margin further increased to 35.0%.

The financial report also pointed out that SMIC’s total revenue in 2021 also hit a record high of US$5.4431 billion, ranking fourth in the world, and became the fastest growing wafer foundry among the world’s top four with a revenue growth rate of 39%. .

It is worth mentioning that, even under the influence of complex geopolitical factors and multiple uncertainties such as the new crown epidemic, SMIC's production expansion in 2021 will still exceed expectations, strengthen the deployment of mature process capacity, and expand the strategic layout of multiple platforms. Continuously improve the company's profitability.

You can almost hear cotton boy screeching over this

but it seems like SMIC is running at full capacity on 8 inch wafers and that silicon wafers are sold out up to 2026. Looks like growth in China chip industry is going to explode higher.
In terms of production capacity, SMIC's monthly production capacity in the fourth quarter of 2021 increased from 593,875 8-inch equivalent wafers in the third quarter to 621,000 8-inch equivalent wafers, and the capacity utilization rate was still as high as 99.4%.
Recently, Sumco, a major supplier of silicon wafers, has said that its production capacity by 2026 has been sold out, which indicates that the shortage of silicon wafers may not ease in the next few years, and also indicates that the foundry industry will continue to grow. The period of high prosperity will continue for a long time.
