Can you distinguish a PESA from an AESA considering they're near identical? People believe the J-10B to be equipped with an AESA because AESA's in general perform better than PESA's. Since China already has an AESA system active for more than a decade on the 052C and has a thriving indigenous electronics industry, one would assume China has the capability to develop an AESA for the J-10B. So the logic is, if China has AESA's and the capability to produce AESA's, why go for a PESA on the J-10B?

There are at least two different models in service and two other models under development.
The first one is installed on all Chinese Flankers. Seems that it has a detection range of 450 against 1 m^2 target in L-band.
THe second one is installed on the J-10B.
There are also radars for the J-20. Another one is being developed for the J-31.
