Chinese purchase of Su-35

In the absence of other information, we have to assume the J-11D does not have improvements to fuel capacity; in the case of the Su-35, this was achieved through extensive modifications to the internal structure. Give me a credible source that states that the J-11D has 11.5 tons of fuel capacity.

Very interesting assumption :)

Also a very interesting assumption: "In the absence of other information, we have to assume that the J-20 does not shoot death rays out of its pilot's HMD and that its pilot cannot simply think "explode" at a target and watch its foe explode."

In the absence of information, we wait until that absence is resolved. There might be little to suggest, at this point, that the J-11D is capable of the Su-35's fuel capacity, but given the extensive avionics and structural upgrades elicited upon the J-11D, an increased fuel capacity is not out of the question either.

Well, China did not release any information of many weapons, including ICBMs, nor actually showing their A/H warheads.

Would you then say the same "in the absence of other information, I (not we, only yourself) have to assume China doesn't have ICBM, nor nuclear arsenal."?

Sleep well.;)

@taxiya: except that the PLA2nd Artillery drove its ICBMs on parade, so we have information suggesting the existence of the Chinese ICBM force. Moreover, Chinese nuclear tests are a matter of public record.

Whereas, despite knowing about composite improvements to the J-11Ds, we've seen no data indicating the existence of fuel tank expansion. In the Su-35 case, parts of its tailfins were hollowed out to place fuel tanks there. There is no corresponding information for the J-11D.

Having an operational TVC fighter gives the PLA a few enhanced options. First, TVC can be used to allow the J-20 to practice against a TVC-capable fighter, a non-stealth simulation of the F-22. Second, TVC technology, if tacked onto the J-20, allows the PLA to create finless successors to the J-20 which would have further enhanced stealth; essentially being a 5.5th gen fighter in terms of stealth capability. See the X-36. And of course, the J-31 would definitely need TVC for enhanced maneuverability; essentially making it a baby Raptor.

The Su-35Ks, also, have capabilities the J-11D does not. Definitely, the J-11D has better avionics, having an AESA .5-1 generations behind the latest US kit (F-35), but the Su-35K is supermaneuverable and has larger internal fuel tanks, enabling the Su-35K to achieve a longer range.

I think ultimately the PLA would much rather have done 12 planes for pure opfor and research capabilities, but 24 planes satisfies the Russians, as well as extends the PLA's range towards the South China Sea.
Can not the Chinese read the reports of the X-31 versus F-18 can they? can not they read what happened to the F-22 and Rafale in WVR can they? can not they send their aircraft to aviadarts (they do) and see Su-30SM and Su-35s operating?

What is the difference in engine between the PAKFA, Su-30SM and Su-35?

what is the difference between the engine of Su-35 and PAKFA does PAKFA supercruise?

why Irbis has longer range than many AESA radars?

New 'Saturn' gas-turbine corporation chief Iliya Fyodorov says 117C engine, which is installed on the last 'Sukhoi's serial Su-35, is able to achieve supersonic speed without use of afterburner. It

The Su-35 is a 4-plus-plus-generation multirole air superiority fighter that is just now entering service in the Russian Air Force, which has also ordered 48 in a deal that runs through 2015.

In addition to having some stealth and supercruise characteristics, the Su-35 is expected to be equipped with advanced passive electronically scanned array (PESA) radar systems.

The acquisition could further tip the balance of air power in the Taiwan Strait in China’s favor, as Taiwan remains unsuccessful in its requests to obtain 66 F-16C/Ds from the US, an aircraft that is almost a full generation behind the Su-35 (China’s J-20 and the US’ F-22 and F-35 are so-called fifth-generation aircraft).

The Su-35 can fly at supersonic speeds without afterburner mode switching
Moscow. July 20. INTERFAX.RU - Constructors Aviation Holding Company "Sukhoi" are working on the possibility of supersonic flight nonafterburning multipurpose fighter Su-35, said, "Interfax-AVN" director of creation fighter program in the company "Sukhoi" Igor Demin.

"Designers of the Su-35 did not expect and did not plan to cruise at supersonic speed without afterburner, but received new data after the test aircraft at transonic and low supersonic speeds at heights of 5 and 11 km closer look at the possibility of such a flight," - he said, .

I.Demin explained that a fighter phase of flight tests are now passing, without the inclusion afterburner accelerated to supersonic speeds than pleasantly surprised by its developers.

First of all - the Su-35 aircraft

China develops and manufactures modern combat aircraft. The fifth generation is represented by two fighter - J-20 and J-31. The undeniable advantages of the Chinese multi-role fighter J-10 (Jian-10) - maneuverability, reliability, integrated system avionics (aircraft designed with the Israeli and Russian Technologies, has a Russian AL-31F engine). Yet the range of Chinese fighter is not enough to control the vast waters of the South China Sea, and this - the strategic goal of China.

Russian Su-35 have increased fuel capacity (range - more than 1500 km), which will allow Beijing to control the disputed territory effectively. With minimal participation of the Navy.

The Su-35 has the capability to attack ground and sea targets, which significantly expands the range of application of combat. In addition, a fighter equipped with the latest systems, radio-electronic warfare (EW).

Compared with the legendary Su-27, a new multi-purpose fighter Su-35 is equipped with a 4 ++ generation engines with significantly more traction. Let the Su-35 has stealth capabilities, but has super maneuverability (through the use of it 117C engines with thrust vector control).

The plane is equipped with powerful radars "snow leopard" with a passive phased array. The Su-35 is able to detect the target with RCS (radar cross-section) 0.01 m at a distance of 90 km, that is, "see" at this distance the F-35 aircraft and the F-22. The advantage of the US stealth technology becomes meaningless.

Chinese military expert Liu Linchuan previously noted: "In the arsenal of the Su-35 has long-range missiles with ramjet engine (ramjet) We develop these missiles, but why not look at other people's creations, if possible.".

Chinese experts for the first time expressed interest in the Su-35 in 2008, during the Air Show Airshow China (Air Force Commander Xu Qiliang personally acquainted with the fighter's abilities and praised its flight and performance characteristics). In 2011, the Ministry of Defense of China officially submitted a proposal for the purchase of the Su-35, and a preliminary agreement was signed in 2012. About three years the sides have discussed the technical and financial conditions. In particular, China has preferred to equip its cockpit avionics.

As the power plant on the MiG-31 uses powerful high-efficiency bypass turbojet engines D-30F6, developmental thrust in afterburner 15 500 kilograms. Reserve fuel in internal fuel tanks of 16,350 liters, can be suspended fuel tanks with total capacity of 4000 liters. The aircraft MiG-31B equipped with a system of refueling in the air.

MiG-31 is able to pass the sound barrier in level flight and in climb mode, while the majority of supersonic aircraft moving speed of Mach 1 in a shallow dive. Moreover, the MiG-31 is at medium and high altitudes to go supersonic without the inclusion afterburner. But this property is believed to have only a fifth-generation fighter.
1. supersonic cruising flight - V = 2,500 km / h (2.32 M), the maximum speed - V = 3000 km / h (2.82 M). For information: the T-50 supersonic cruise speed is not expected to more than 1800 km / h, the Su-35 can carry out only a short time (about 15 minutes) supersonic flight at speeds of up to 2500 km / h.

2. Capacity - nine or ten tonnes (the Su-35, T-50 - about eight).

3. Overcoming the sound barrier with a set height (the Su-35, T-50 can not).

4. Static ceiling - 20.6 kilometers (Su-35 - 18 km, the T-50 - 20 km), a dynamic ceiling - 25 kilometers.

It should be noted that the maximum velocity and the ceiling 31, Mig-superior not only Russian Su-35S and T-50, but foreign planes F-22, F-35, "Typhoon" and "Rafal".

According to experts, aircraft such as the MiG-31 will be out of competition for at least the next 15 years, with the following tasks:

I don't think SCS is China buying Su-35 for. The distance between Hainan and Nansha is more than 1000km. Meaningful and effective air support in Nansha for Chinese, when it is needed, will have to be from either one of their newly reclaimed islands or a Chinese aircraft carrier near by.

China doesn't need to deploy Su-35 in Nansha. This airplane isn't built for the weather condition either.
