Chinese purchase of Su-35

That sounds so ridiculous. First, China isn't a charity. Second, there are plenty of things more worthy to buy: more used IL-76s, D-30KP engines, more AL-31FN engines, rocket engines, nuclear reactors. In fact, China did buy all those items that I just mentioned. You don't hear about them because they have already been sold with no need for further advertisement. There is a lot of noise associate with Su-35 because the plane is not selling.

I never knew China bought any rocket engines? are you sure about that?

Agreed ... but IMO it is a Chinese pilot and we all know how unrealiable some Russian reports are and in contrast I know how reliable "KURYER" is. I thrust him.

By the way, we know contracts of the engines and other Chinese-Su-35-related items ... IMO that contract is a fact. For me that case is closed even if I can understand all Your doubts

Deino
to be clear, here is my position right now.
  1. I do not see a convincing reason for China to buy Su-35.
  2. BUT, I do not have any opinion regarding the deal being signed or not before I see some evidence. That is the call of PLAAF, not mine. PLAAF may have a reason that I don't know of. This position does not contradict to the point above. That is the doubt, but not rejection.
Which pilot that you are sure being Chinese? The one with most of his face covered? Or the one in Su-35 showing his back helmet? How do you tell? Unless Kuryer is a real insider who has close range access to the airbase/factory/Chinese delegation. If that is the case I won't argue but instead just take note of your words.

you are wrong, the list you mentioned are considered outdated tech therefore Russians are more than happy to sell. In fact, they are pushing to sell more of them to China. They are hesitating on the SU35.
You got it backward.

NAH! the Russians will sell the SU-35 to anybody with the cash, they are anxious to sell and have been "hyping" this deal for a long time. They need the cash to push the development of PAK-FA up into the real world.

They do want to sell a sufficient number to recoup some of the development cost of the SU-35, the only reason the Chinese would be interested at this stage would be a substantial increase in the number of frontline aircraft available in the very near term. The main reason for that is to improve their defense posture, particularly in the East China Sea and the South China Sea.

For me to continue the argument with you makes me sound like a Russian defender who I am not. But who cares whether I am or not if we look at the facts.

The highlighted words from you tell me that you are actually thinking backwards. Those techs are outdated, but only in today's standard, not back then by the then Chinese standard. China did not have Y-20 decades ago when China bought IL76. China did not have WS-10 mature enough to equip J-10 back then. China did not have LM-5 and LM-7 with the LO-Kerosene rockets back then. All those techs were advanced than what China had back then and were of great value to China.

Your assertion of those tech being outdated is akin to assert Crossbow was not a great invention 2000 years ago because it is far less powerful compared to a AK-47, or stirrup was useless 1500 years ago because we have automobiles in 20th century. It is very absurd position. I would not easily call somebody wrong without going through my facts and logics.

Guys, I initially thought that talk of sale of the SU-35 to the Chinese was unwarranted rumours. But when you check the twitter link that Deino posted in post #1857, and his endorsement of KURYER's reliability and if you go through the twits and see the picture, we can't deny that there is a possibility of the sales talk being true. Afterall rumours are like stereotypes, they are borne out of some truths or semi-truths.

While I never discount nor have I ever disagreed with Master Deino, or his sources,,,,(this is the first time that Deino and B787 have ever agreed on anything),,,,, I'm going to stick with the Engineer here, I just do not see this happening??? I really don't. But as B787 has pushed the time table back to March, I'm going to play "Jeff Head" here and say, "lets wait and see"???
