Chinese purchase of Su-35

When reading English news reports translated from a Chinese source, always be aware of the possibility of the meaning getting lost in translation. The phrase "Fu Qianshao, an aviation equipment expert with the PLA Air Force " could well be better translated as "Fu Qianshao, an aviation equipment expert on the PLA Air Force".

That is certainly a possibility but regardless if he is actually PLAAF or just an expert on PLAAF or if he is just a civilian janitor working in an airbase, the one thing that is FACTUAL is he talked about it! To me that means something.

Compared to past events about this deal, this one has exponentially more chatter and a lot more individuals discussing it and making implications.. and might I add this time around it's not just the Russians but a lot more Chinese are also making those assumptions.

Fu Qianshao, I think is this person

He is the deputy chief editor of an Airfore magazine. He is an civilian employee of PLAAF. His pay grade is something (regiment) equals GS13 or 14 in the U.S. system. He is also a frequent guest of popular TV programs, similar to the one from the Navy (rear admiral), but has a more serious tone. But, his word can not be taken too seriously, after all he is not a active officer, only a middle rank, no way involved in decision making. Due to his semi-civilian nature, he can be one deliverring miss-information deliberately by PLA just like the rear admiral.

Well the fact that he said SU 35 can beat F35 w/o stating any prequalifying factors ( BVR vs WVR/C4isr environment etc) shows some sort of misinformation and generalization.
But you also have to read between the lines... the fact that he even make those comparison in the first place lends more credence to Chinese purchase of the Sukhoi.

I must admit that I haven't read the aritical carefully. However even so, I am a bit confused by your logic.

As you said in the first paragraph, he stated Su-35 can beat F35. But he did not state prequalifying factors.

Making such statement without substantial backing is excatly something that defeat his credibility in this case (only this case, Su-35). Because of this, I can not understand how could his "making those comparison (without substantial backing)" lend more credence to the Su-35 deal. I would have made the opposite conclusion.

I guess the reason that you and I reached totally opposite conclusions is because we are paying attentions to the two different facts of the same statement. You focused on his "comparison", while I focused on his "without substantial backing".

My reasoning was that why did he even bother to bring the subject of su35 up in the first place as a comparison to F35 if let's say he knows that an acquisition was not or did not happened?
Why even make any sort of comparison at all? Why bother touting the effectiveness of su35 over f35 if the su remains solely in the Russian domain only?
Why spread misinformation or boast capabilities about a product that you do not have or do not plan on acquiring?
He might as well just compare a typhoon or a rafale or whatever to the f35. That was where I was coming from.

I have watched many such TV programs regarding subjects including Su35 with guests including him over the past years. They basically talk about anything including hot topics on the internet. Why do they do that? or why not? It is just TV shows, just like what here SD members do, talk, but none of us can confirm anything, neither do they (the TV guests). My point is that in this matter, Mr. Fu does not have the rank, access to the decision process, nor the authorization to say anything either possitive or nagative to the deal.

That is part of his job, misinformation. Remember, even if China does not want Su-35, She will not slap on the face of Sukhoi by outright denial if Sukhoi does this as an advertisement because Sukhoi was a important partner, and Russia is still a long time partner, China will simple play along. If China does want Su-35, then he is saying the trueth. Eighter way, he is doing his job.

I think his comment is made because of the Su-35 deal was brought up, that's why he didn't take typhoon or rafale. He could have made similar statements comparing typhoon or rafale with F35 in shows if same questions are being presented to him.
I have watched his shows many times. They (him and other guests) do that.

Fair enough. Like have been mentioned hundreds of times no one here can say definitively which way or other.. The best we can do is give our own guesses and odds. For me I give it over 50 and I know many here below but regardless anything less than 100% we're all in the same boat. No one here can say with 100% certainty however no one can say absolute 0% chance of happening either.
