Chinese purchase of Su-35

Oh come on, Brat! Readers of SDF know how much Chinese defense industry has improved, but better than America's military-industrial complex? Not by a long shot.

Tony, I was very specifically speaking to the contrast in build quality between the Su-35 and the J-15, as Dieno said the poor fit and finish of the Su-35 is shocking, in contrast the J-15 appears to have a construction fit and finish as close as the F-22, maybe even the F-35... I most specifically was NOT referring to stealth/performance/sensor fusion or any other aspect of terminal performance, although in a close in turn and burn, the J-15 is likely firmly in F-15 country,,, but feel free to disagree and if I'm able to follow your advanced thinking, I would love to engage in a little "hangar flying". I did point out and readers should note, that the Su-35 will likely kick butt, the F-117 with OVT and the Radar should be very good? The better Russian pilots are not constrained by common sense nor the laws of aerodynamics, but they do occasionally break airplanes, and sadly some have perished?

To admit - and I surely do not want to open up again a heated debate whether pro and contra the Russian and/or Chinese industrial base - but I'm surprised or even shocked by the building quality ... or the lack of it ! :(:(

Deino

The Russians are never ones to care about build quality. That said, I think this is an HDR photo, which makes it look worse than it actually is, and it looks very bad indeed.

On the topic of whether the Chinese will purchase the Su-35, I'd be mighty surprised if they did. If I recall correctly, this was the fourth time in as many years a Russian government bigwig has said the Chinese were on the verge to buy.

The *#&% is gettin' really old. I ain't buying it until the ink dries on the dotted line.

According to the above article, Russia and China are very close to reach a deal of 24 Su-35s under the condition that Russia agrees to modify the connectors of weapon stations to fit the Chinese ammunition.
However, the difficulty will be, according to the article, that the two nations would have to share their source code of fire control systems, or replace the Russian avionics with the Chinese version.

Come one! I never spend a single minute reading articles like that. Believe me, Su-35 may or may not come to a deal but those articles are completely nonsense and baseless.

It is just simply an impossible deal ......

Yes, they've been "pretty close" to closing a deal for the past 3-5 years!!! LOL

I wouldn't say the Russians are never about build quality, some of their stuff is very slick, and Russian AK-47s from the 50s are very sweet, it all depends on the project and the team building. The Russian stuff works, "witness the AK-47" they just have a design/build philosophy best described as kinda "industrial"... I am sure the T-50s are built to a higher standard, at least at this juncture, and fifth gens must have "tighter" tolerances and higher build quality. I do think the average Chinese Defense industry employee, has a much greater "pride" in workmanship, just a more precise philosophy compared to the more relaxed Russian outlook on life in general???

One thing to remember, airplane in question (serial No 08 ) was going places , participating in various air shows etc ... Newly build examples have much better look, closer to Western and Chinese standards . If the deal gets trough (which could or could not happen ) I suspect China would want more then just 24 examples, and in that case some kind of deal for licensed manufacture could be reached .
