Chinese oversea bases

Of course, it only makes sense for Cambodia to also buy new vessels from China.

If Cambodia is to exercise sovereignty effectively then it probably needs Chinese ships as you say, I’m sure that list will also include submarines, we have seen lots of subs for sale in all different sizes, even just 300t.

You are right that there will be joint drills, with China and others, including USA hopefully.

All of this sounds good for Cambodia, and for the region which should be more secure because of a more balanced layout.

It still doesn’t mean that there is a PLA base in Cambodia.
I really don't understand why you are hell bent said that China will not base their navy in Cambodia. Can you read mind? China said they don't militarize SCS but we all se now they regularly use it to base KJ500 and KQ200 there So what China said and do is different thing. Circumstances change. Just wait and see

Didn't the FM spokesperson gang also say all the construction in the desert in Chinese interior are windmill farms? And that globe circling hypersonic test where a sub vehicle was deployed was a spacecraft test?

Ream naval base confirmed.
I read this news. The above project, China is helping Cambodia to repair/modernize its Ream naval base. Period.

The US is accusing Cambodia allowing China to build a naval within our soil. I always feel angry with this. It's our soil, it's our sovereignty. To allow or not to allow China to build naval base in our country is our internal affair. There's nothing to do with the US. Whatever we do, it's our choice and freedom. The US has no right to say this and that!

Circumstances will need to change, I am ok with that. Just like the SCS, if the US Navy started threatening Cambodia by doing close in reconnaissance and exercises off their coast, and Cambodia invite’s China to dock a ship, I dont see that as a problem, but it’s still not a PLAN base.

China said they will choose very carefully where to put their own foreign bases, and they are saying that Ream is not one of them.

To be clear, I am saying that I believe China. And I have given the arguments I believe back it up. Speculating vehemently that Ream is a PLAN base is just members here falling into the trap China has set for the US and Australia.

See @SteelBird post above as Exhibit A for this argument.

We saw the exact same trap last week in the South Pacific, when the collective security arrangement was the bait to make the west look ridiculous, while the reality was 50+ bilateral deals.

I think the strategy is to make the US cry wolf so often that eventually no one believes them.

Take a look at the map, can you find a better military base location for PLA's needs than Ream and surrounding area? And would be permitted by the host country.
Yes, the Gulf of Guinea. China can cover the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand from the mainland, no need to upset the entire regional security balance of ASEAN.

What are you talking about? Do you understand why China needs a base or more in ASEAN region?

Apparently not.

Your arguments so far don’t make sense to me, hosting H20’s, PLARF, or floods of Diesel Subs as you suggested is just not realistic imo, why would Cambodia agree to that? Have you considered Cambodias point of view at all? Or ASEANs? Or Chinas past modus operandi?

My arguments:.

1. There is no threat in the Gulf of Thailand.
2. A strong Cambodian Navy can defend its maritime territory by itself.
3. China can already cover those waters with rockets and subs and god knows what else.
4. It’s adjacent to the SCS, which China can easily deploy from, doesn’t even need a support ship.
5. It’s in the first island chain, surrounded by friends and neighbors.
6. It doesn’t protect anything.
7. It would just be an easy to target for nearby western forces, easy to destroy or blockade.
8. China said they are not.
9. Cambodia said they are not.
10. Geography, the Thai ismuths blocks access to the Indian Ocean anyway. China can’t sail through it or fly over it, they might have US SAMS deployed there.
