Interesting maybe China will go through a early 2010s western mobile operating system period with a sort of cambrian explosion of mobile operating system being created. You had android, Tizen, iOS, windows phone & windows mobile, black berry OS(?) etc..
highly recommend everyone to look over this.

They've taken the huawei/harmony approach here and I think it will work out for them.
They are really the only one that can compete against huawei in smart device ecosystem
they don't have the same chip design capability, but looks like their software prowess is pretty good
developing an OS across IoT devices that is lightweight and works across devices is not easy. I can assure you of that

Huawei has made it public in the HDC Together event in Aug this year that the company is starting to grow the native software ecosystem for its HarmonyOS.
For the time being the consumers are still getting phones with a "dual-framework" OS that has a compatible layer for Android apps. Meanwhile the latest SDKs for third party software vendors only have the Harmony native layer. The HarmonyOS Next edition, currently in preview and will be released to all developers in January, will have 40% less code after having the Android layer removed.
According to zhaopin.com, an online recruitment platform, on average Harmony related software positions pay 17537 yuans per month and it is rising still. The highest pay from Meituan for architect positions on Harmony even reaches 60000 yuans per month.

针对这一消息，有华为内部人士对媒体表示，今后，鸿蒙将与安卓应用形成“硬分叉”，“随着华为启动鸿蒙原生应用，目前App的安卓版本部分已与鸿蒙不兼容，未来鸿蒙入口将独立存在。”
其实，子弹已经飞了一会儿。
所谓“华为启动鸿蒙原生应用”的消息，在今年8月的华为开发者大会（HDC.Together）上就早已发布过。
“今天，所有的消费者拿到的仍然是一个双框架（鸿蒙+安卓）的手机，但是所有的开发者伙伴们，你们拿到的其实已经是单框架（鸿蒙）的手机了，”华为终端云服务总裁朱勇刚当时在鸿蒙生态峰会上公开表示。
