Re: FIDAE 2012: FAdeA to push ahead with Chinese helicopter production

Asif, do you have any recent news on J-10 to Pakistan? I mean apart from the stuff on wikipedia.
It seems that the deal has stalled.... Maybe after all higher level people in CCP do not want to export J-10 after all...

Do the Pakistanis still need the J-10? They did buy 18 F-16 Block 52s in addition to the JF17s. But I presume they probably still need something to replace their Mirage 5s and F7s?

yes they do, but nothing offical, at the moment PAF is taking delivery of 2 aircraft simultaneously, JF17 and F16, one with ToT its hands are full and simply cant absorb a fighter like J10 in its inventory

on top of that we just added AWACS and Mid air refueling tankers

but the future does hold a requirments for J10, or more commonly known as FC-20 in Pakistan, Mirage and F7 will be replaced by JF17

Interesting, Venezuela is buying amphibious tanks from China. I guess something like ZTD-05? I'm not familiar with all of the amphibious vehicles they are developing.

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez says his government will buy amphibious tanks from China for its military.

Chavez isn't saying how many of the armored vehicles Venezuela intends to buy, but says the deal signed Tuesday calls for a Chinese company to begin delivering the tanks next year.

He announced the deal in a speech to troops, saying the $500 million cost will be financed through loans that China has offered Venezuela in exchange for oil shipments.

In recent years Chavez has also agreed to billions of dollars in arms deals with Russia, buying fighter jets, helicopters, assault rifles and surface-to-air missiles.

Not bad... The ZBD/ZTD05 series are among the best if not the best amphibious vehicles currently in service (given EFV was cancelled), and the 105mm gun on ZTD05 and the older type 63As are also some of the most potent aboard AAVs. Venezuela will get a potent amphibious AFV if they do indeed go for ZTD05

More likely Type 63A. The best amphibious tank in the world. Really not many countries now produce it

What make you feel that it could be the Type 63A? So far as I know, the type 63A is a very old and obsolete design. Even PLA is phasing out this tank and Venezuela isn't a poor country. It could afford much more better equipment and there are plenty of choice in China's inventory.

Check your facts, right.

Has anyone heard about the Argentine Defense Minister interested in buying the J-20? Of course probably not gonna happen but Agentina would be a nice geo-political counter of one upsmanship like how arms are sold to China's rivals as a message.

He is both right and wrong.

ZTD-05 is actually a far newer and superior design compared to type 63A, but the latter is still a formidable amphibious tank despite its age.
