According to a Weibo user who chatted with a NORINCO representative, the armor modules on the VN-20 feature a combination of passive and reactive armor in the same enclosure, so that in theory, these modules can also be applied to unarmored vehicles. Also, while the VN-20 share the same powerpack as the VT-4 MBT, the hull of the VN-20 is unique.
Is it just me or did the turret and hull roof make a perfect shot trap?
Shot traps aren't a thing with sabot rounds.
There're plenty more options that maybe can't penetrate the armor, but do just enough to jam the turret. Then shot trap would matter.
You might need to go back to analyzing WWII tanks. Shot traps have not been a thing for decades.
