An academic paper on mitigating the unstart problem of a hypersonic vehicle design with dual-mode ramjet engine. I'm not sure what "dual-mode" refers to, but it probably means the engine is capable of both subsonic and supersonic combustion.

Abstract: The inlet unstart problem of the wide speed range hypersonic vehicle during maneuvering flight is a key problem that must be considered in flight control design. An integrated flight/propulsion protection and control method based on optimal inlet optimization is developed in this paper. The method can optimize the angle of attack of the inlet flow field in real time according to the flight condition, and the joint adjustment of the angle of attack and the expansion ratio of the combustion chamber is completed by the pole placement strategy. The simulation results show that compared with the traditional unstart protection control method, the integrated protection control method can improve the unstart stability margin of the inlet under the same design premise, reduce the unstart risk of the inlet, and avoid the adverse effects of the unstart of the inlet on the flight mission of the wide speed range hypersonic vehicle.

Dual mode in this paper means two sustaining flight modes, "turbine" and "ram". There is a "third" transition mode when both turbine and ram works together for a brief period.

It is interesting to see that the simulated mass of the aircraft is 35 tonnes. I assume that is neighter empty weight, nor take-off weight but mass after transintioning to ram mode when quite some fuel has burnt. So the take-off mass is likely 40 to 45 tonnes. It looks like a tactical aircraft or a theater aircraft.

Cross-posting from the Engine Development thread, as this is of some relevance here.

The Chongqing University Industrial Technology Research Institute has flight tested a prototype rotating detonation engine on a scale model plane. The engine is designated FB-1.

An award announcement on scramjet transient combustion control technology. The award was given to a team from National University of Defense Technology (NUDT) for their contribution in achieving stable transient combustion of scramjet engine during change in flight conditions (i.e. change in altitude, direction, and speed).

First and only country to achieve this btw

Won’t stop the Americans from accusing China of stealing the tech from them somehow.

Breaking news, China has achieved real life inception tech! And is stealing the revolutionary new ideas of American scientists and entrepreneurs from their minds before they can even write those ideas down themselves! Then those evil Chinese are deleting the ideas from the memories of the Americans so they have those ideas to themselves! Pure evil!
