Modao Zhushi has 11 billions view worldwide. How many of that is from mainland? Is Modao Zhushi more popular than some trash like Kimetsu no Yaiba or Jujutsu Kaisen, not to mention Pokemon, One Piece or Naruto? And Modao Zhushi is hardly appealing to people who cannot get in to gay love. That's why it has massive women fanbase. You said you don't give a shit about the West says, that's fine. But don't you know that even in Southeast Asia, Chinese media is not even on par with Japanese media or even Korean media yet. How many Chinese movies can make money in such market? You can say that Chinese media is popular to Chinese viewers and that's enough. It just prove that Chinese media hardly appeal outside China or put in another way, Chinese soft power just suck outside China or countries that has Chinese cultural heritage like Vietnam. Such narrow world view contribute to how Chinese media is ridiculed anywhere and hardly get what it should deserve.
There's Viet subbed Chinese songs on YouTube with more views than on Bilibili. You guys made several some singers more popular than China itself did.

Is Vietnam and Malaysia not part of SEA?

Are the people you were arguing with just racist? Chinese sounds very pleasant, much better than South Korean or SEA languages imo.

I found these racists f**ks.

I don't watch anime but holy ****. TIL there are a lot of racist otakus/weebs, more than redditors.
It's their natural response since they feel threatened that their favorite anime will soon be overtaken. You must cope somehow. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

China soft power just sucks. That's a truth. Even in China there is shit ton of otaku, if not the largest number of otaku in the world. And Chinese government barely made any effort to promote it because they content they have the biggest martket in the world.
That's got nothing to do with "soft power," as an term for the imaginary ability to coerce a result without force. My mom watched Korean dramas every night after work, told me I'm not allowed to marry a Korean girl and we only want Chinese people in this family. I can still freehand draw manga like I'm ready to throwdown at some anime convention competition cus I followed like 15 different anime shows when I was in high school and breathed Pokemon as a kid but if Japan dares enter a conflict on America's side, I wouldn't hesitate to beat them into the new Asian Haiti. Making entertainment is only good for the proceeds it bring in.

Russian tank crews are listening to rap and metal music as they turn M1A1s into scrap so I'm not sure how much Hollywood helped either.

It's just reactionary forces. People, in general, are hard-pressed to adapt to change. It took a generation to inculcate Westerners to develop the weeb culture. Likewise, K-pop was not initially well received when it made its debut in the West. When Girl's Generation released their first music video, it garnered 50-60% dislikes; The comment section was filled with "Asians are weird" and "Wtf is this weird shite." Fifteen Years later, you have girls all over the world swooning for Korean femboys.

Give it some time. Eventually, these Weebs will become highly effective Wumaos, and we can all finally retire from our online defense of China.

True. I don't even need to defend Genshin because Klee and Paimon simps do it for me. Genshin subreddit will drown in spit those who dare claim it is Japanese.

I think the bad impression of Mandarin stemmed from people with Cantonese accents, or people who don't even speak Mandarin trying to read pinyin like in Fallout 3.
People generally cannot clearly distinguish Mandarin accents if they don't speak Mandarin. Just like you cannot distinguish American English from Australia English if you don't even know how to say Hello. People outside China don't like Mandarin because the fact it is viewed as CCP language, no matter what accent. Cantonese sound less pleasant but it get less hate simply because it is not the national language of communist China.

"just sucks"
>literally no2 in the world and only because China had to rebuild after ww2 instead of US that started fresh

The thing is you don't abandon your core audience just to pander to others. Producers are 100% right to focus on China-centric content first. The rest of the world will come to accept that they must follow, not the other way around. As different producers compete with eachother, they create increasingly powerful media that will come to blow away China's enemies in quality and scale, like how Star Wars and Indiana Jones blew away whatever shit the USSR was playing back in the cold war. You don't get that from pandering to outside markets, but by delivering an unapologetically China first product.

Idea for Chinese Lord of the Rings.

Uses elements of Chinese mythology, martial arts, weapons, tombs, Feng shui, etc to create an original universe. Essential the greatest hits of Chinese culture such as Tolkien used Pagan and Christian culture.

In this world, demons, other races and barbarians makes it a busy and often dangerous place for humans. There are minor nations, barbarians, and tributaries surrounding the usually protagonist dynasty. To the very north is the endless tundra, the very west the endless deserts, the very south the endless jungle and the very east the endless sea. Heaven is above and hell is below. There is also the parallel spirit world.

The ruling Dynasty has armies and departments to deal with these dangers, but when shit hits the fans and a high level threat appears, they summon help from Gods but those come at their own whim and when the dynasty has enough favor and is resource intensive (perhaps requires human medium that dies at the end). Gods are large, imposing and frightening for your average human. I.e. Erlang is like 10 feet tall. Also they don't give AF about collateral damage.

High level human or non-human warriors of legendary skills can ascend to Gods or fall into Demonhood.

The infinite struggle is between periods of chaos and periods of peace. Period of chaos is caused by demons resulting in supernatural disasters, loss of favor with the gods, and dynasty collapse, where as period of peace is when new heroes arrive to end the period of chaos and establish a new dynasty. Occasionally heroes can prevent the fall of a dynasty themselves.

Difference between these property and Star Wars LOTR is that this will be setup to have indefinite number of sequels. As the director can always come up with a new ancient threat, barbarian threat, etc per movie.

Now I think of it this is basically Cathay from Warhammer fantasy lol.
