One interesting find - A study conducted on an aircraft powerplant design with rear-mounted S-duct, said to be meant for U(C)AVs that can travel at Mach 1.5. Likely to significantly enhance rear-aspect stealth by hiding rearward-facing engine components from reflecting radar waves.

Would be interesting to know how much thrust is lost with that kind of configuration.

Agreed. A revisited and refined engine based off a very reliable core doesn't sound bad. As per @sunnymaxi, 1990s base with 2020s technology.

And here's the said link about Orca confirming this:

,

And the comment specifying the 56-5 series.

I could've sworn he did say it's the 5B somewhere else but I couldn't find it. Either the Mandela Effect or it was someone else that said it.

Interestingly, Orca once said, "Who told you that cfm56-7 is more advanced than 56-5? It's like saying LEAP-1B is more advanced than LEAP-1A, it's stupid..."

AECC Liyang production facility. What turbofan is that in the first image? AEF100?

Found something quite interesting.

Seen here is an engine with contra-rotating propellers being tested inside a soundproof room, said to be conducted by the Strength Department of an unknown institute. Most likely researching on how to reduce the propeller noise produced by the contra-rotating propellers.

Will China develop an NK-12-equivalent engine to power her future airlifters? With a max power output of more than 11000 kW for the latter variants, the NK-12 is the most powerful turboprop engine in the world, ever.
