Unfortunately, here in the West (especially in Italy, and I am talking about many of my professional colleagues ) there is a tendency (for convenience) to purposely underestimate and denigrate the Chinese military industry, especially the motor industry. In my opinion a serious mistake.

Prestige is a matter of time because people's opinions mostly don't change once they are formed. It has been just 3 years since China became self-sufficient in fighter jet engines.
The last 10 years have been breathtaking to watch. China really started dominating and competing in a lot of different industries.
I remember when I first started hearing rumors of China building its own widebody jet in 2015 or something. At the time I laughed. I haven't been laughing much in the last 3-5 years.
lack of knowledge about China's development/progress. coz western media don't report. neither these people bother to check.
China is now a major player in turbofan engine globally. and have complete ecosystem of gas turbine propulsion. can design any type of machine from low to high thrust engine.
for example, a major Chinese engine contractor Shenyang liming Engine Company last year total revenue was in Billions. LOL
I think it happened too quickly. Presently any information on the Chinese military is obsolete after a month, sometimes even shorter. If you don't follow up on it frequently enough then your knowledge will become painfully outdated.

28660 lbs is literally the lower threshold of the engine's operational parameters. What Jane's did is like me saying that the F-119 only has a maximum thrust of 116 KN because that's the maximum military thrust.
I'm skeptical about this image, the way it's described doesn't look like it's from an official release.
